I need help on changing over. What intake carb and distribator setup would be best for my stock motor. Thanks............
a mild dual plane 4bbl intake, a carb in the 600-650 cfm range and for the dizzy it would depend on what came you have "roller or not" and what kind of electrical your up to doing
Its ho roller motor.........Buddy runs buggies and he like procomp ignition. He said its cheaper than msd but he like it.........
dual plane intake (performer 289 or so), 600cfm carb, dizzy from a '85 Mustang 5.0 w/ manual trans from Advance ($50)
What about this from ebay...... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SBF-...m14QQhashZitem220296914774QQitemZ220296914774
to use that dizzy mean maverick mentioned your going to need to also wire up a dura spark ignigtion some of the aftermarket stuff might be an easier swap...
but it wont be any easier if he has to pay $50 just for a steel gear from Summit and then have it swapped out. i just found it easier to order the whole dizzy and drop it in... and im running mine with MSD 6AL, which will wire up very simular to ignition he mentioned earlier
when it comes to brands, i guess that's personal preference or just w/e is laying around. i have a Weiand Stealth 8011 intake, Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb and an '85 stang dizzy with MSD 6AL ignition on my '91 HO motor..... but i plan to switch it over to fuel injection this spring. there are a half a dozen intakes you can run, just try to stay with a dual plane to retain street-ability with your stock engines. the Weiand 8011 and the Edelbrock Performer 289 intakes are probably the most popular. or you can even use one from an 84-85 stang GT as they were 302 4v cars and the intake was aluminum. same deal with carbs, but it will probably lye between Holley or Edelbrock in 500-600cfm. again, all in personal preference. if u need a carb, i have an extra 600 Edelbrock that i would sell worth the money.
On a side note MSD uses Ford Duraspark pick up coils in their distributors so it just goes to show you how good a factory ford distributor is. I second the 1985 Mustang distributor and the duraspark box is simple to hook up.
I still need a intake and carb What do you all think about this. http://louisville.craigslist.org/pts/902787547.html
