Dont realy know what Ford called it and dont know what vehicles it came in and thats my question. If I were to go scouring the bone yards for a carrier, what vehicle should I look for? Are my chances of finding one better than a snow balls chance in hell?

All 1974 Mustangs with V-6's had a non-locking 3.55 (just got one last week!!!). It will have a "G" on the door code.

Look for an "X" on the door code: 3.55 locking!!! Very hard to find.

So in this case when Craig says locking and non locking he is referring to an open differential and as apposed to a positive traction rear?? is that correct?

Locking vs non locking = positive traction vs open differential (peg leg, one wheel wonder, etc) Traction loc 8" ford rears were & are extremely rare. If you want one, you're better off buying new, you won't save money, but you won't waste your time looking either.
