I just purchased any orbital sander in the hopes of cleaning up and priming some pieces for storage/sale/use. What grit or grits sand paper do you use and what spray can primers have you had success with (or has sucked)?
I have an idea but yall have experience :tiphat:

the paper depends on the condition of the part...if light rust...#400..
#180 will take it to the metal...what-cha-got...

lots and lots of rust. Two of my cars were flooded by saltwater. I was just harvesting some parts to recoup some of the money($$$) I spent this week on the forum and I noticed Mother Nature disassembled on of my trunk floors for me:cry:. Lots of rust. I think I'll take it down to the metal and prime it. I am going to start another thread about cleaning up interior pieces and lights, because I have tons of those. It's like someone took everything I needed out my cars and put in blinkers and brake lights.:16suspect

you may want to buy some rust converter for the pits you cant get into without a media blaster of some sort.Napa carries a product called "Rust Ban" it workes very well.Easwood company sells a good one too.You may need it to prevent the rust you cant remove from re-activating and eating your parts after they are painted and pretty.

I agree with Mavman72 you really need to neutralize the rust or it can come back.

yes it comes in spray cans i think its $6.00 or so its a pain in the butt to clean a spray gun on all the small stuff i do so its worth the extra money to buy the cans

Awesome, I will read up on stopping the rust. There is certainly enough to mount a comeback attack. Thanks for that heads up:tiphat:.
Brad, I couldn't pass up a sweet deal on some rustoleum auto primer at Evil Meglomart. When those run dry I will try the sherwin williams. This seems like a good project to practice my maverick fixin' documentary skills. Goin to the range this weekend to get ready for the holidays, but next weekend is sounding good.
    Thanks a bunch yall!
