Headers are now ordered. Pipe should be in on thursday, however they will not be starting on them for a week or so. Just so you guys know, if someone backs out now the rest of us will ending picking up the slack on the billing so lets get them paid for asap. Thanks again. Sean. $349.00 plus shipping.
I think each person should post here to CONFIRM that they have placed their order and paid. They were closed when I got home today so I`ll have to do it Tuesday. Crites numbers are: 740-983-4777 or 740-983-2273 Hour's of business is Monday thru Friday 8:OO AM TO 5:00 PM Std Central Time - NO WEEKENDS
Thanks for the phone numbers for Crites. I just forgot to post those. As far a picking up the slack, they won't make us do that, but lets all just do as we say we will and then noone will have to worry. Thanks again....EVERYONE!!!!!
Just curious. Do you think it really matter if the exhaust gases need to go down right out of the head or if they travel an extra inch before they hit the wall and turn and go down??? I don't know that it will matter that much. But I will let you know when they're on my 408 and I get to the track, cause I'm sure they'll be better than the 11/2" I have on my 306.
You won't have a means of comparison if you start out with the crites headers. Anyway, 99% of headers turn down, it's how they "turn down" that matters. A smooth radius makes for the best exit of exhaust gasses. However, on a Maverick/Comet w/ stock shock towers, it's just not possible in most instances (unless you do away with the shock towers). This site explains some of what I'm trying to say....http://www.fabshopheaders.com/ In the end, I think the crites headers will work just fine and 99% of the Mav/Comet population will be happy with them and the price.
I agree with everything Stephen said. I think that WITH the shocktowers these are the best we can do.
Thanks for the info. I will let you know how everything goes. I haven't pulled my 306 yet in case someone wants to hear it running, but as soon as those new headers show up it will be a done deal.
Been calling all day today and I'm getting a busy signal. Sent an email. I'll see what happens. I hope I didnt miss the bus I was on a business trip all week.
If you look closely at the pic of the tubes, facing forward and looking into each of the 8 tubes, you will notice the tabs. There are 2 on each side, one on an upper tube and one on a lower tube, opposite sides of the "4 pack". These little flat tabs have a hole drilled in them for a bolt to slide through. You slip the collectors on, they have matching flat tabs, and when everything lines up, the bolt goes through the tab. This keeps the collectors from sliding backwards off the primary tubes. It works fine, and if you don't put high temp antisieze on the tubes first, you will end up with a permanent connection before too long. The tubes are a fairly tight fit, tight enough where leaking is not a problem, but removing them later is. These headers are touted to fit both 302 and 351w. I have seen posts by members on each, one of each, installs, and they said everything was fine on both engines.
I'm sure you never missed the bus. As long as they have enough pipe to do everything we order I am sure they will keep building them. I wonder if they expected this many people to want these things.
LOL ! I can`t believe that this many people are buying them! This is the kind of thing that makes companys like Crites REALIZE the Maverick/Comet world wants and NEEDS parts for these cars...who knows Crites may decide that maybe they should offer more parts for our cars.
