well it looks like the search function is down today so i guess i'll just ask someone on ebay was looking into a way to get my car shipped from here (DE) to utah. i know there were a few places you guys recomended and some that have been warned against. anyone have any links i can foward the guy? thanks
Oh great someone else in Utah wants a maverick that will make what three or four of us that I know of .........Like parts are not hard enough to find around here...
http://www.uship.com/ It's a website where shippers bid on your job. It's kind of a reverse ebay deal. You list what you have to ship and where and the carriers bid on it. I had two non running cars shipped from VA to NC about 425 miles for $800. At that time the fuel costs were at the peak too. I would recommend it to anyone. It worked out very well for me. If you PM me I can also give you the direct phone # for the guy that hauled mine down. Awesome guy to deal with. Tommy
I've heard some people at barrett jackson use these guys. they have a few offices in utah apparently. hope this helps... http://autotransport.auto-transporter.com/utah/ http://autotransport.auto-transporter.com/delaware/
Actually ATG has a hub within walking distance from my work. My father in law used to drive transport and he had talked about going to work for them. http://www.atglc.com/Home.html These guys also have a hub in Utah, they are in Salt Lake and ATG is also in Salt Lake and is 30 miles north in Ogden http://www.unitedautotransport.com/ They both have comparable rates if I undestand correctly but you need to make sure that they will do it before aranging a transporter. You need to make sure that they will transport a non running vehicle...Otherwise you might be out a deposit fee when the truck shows up and the driver won't touch the car because it can't be driven on his truck.
Looking at his ebay ad I would say no http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972...oryZ6057QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I have heard of a few people that will ship non running cars but they charge a hefty fee. Too bad though we have a rail junction between here and salt lake for shipping cars If it was running you could ship it by train and cut the costs in half.
D A S or dependable auto shippers (or shipping ) brought me my car from las vegas to new jersey for about 8 bills. a little more if i had wanted shipped inside a trailer. i was very pleased. they have a web site so i could track my cars' progress...
Simply put they can't get it on and off their trucks if it does not run. Most of those shippers will show up with a double stack transport, unfortunitely a little car like a maverick is listed to go in a few areas, right behind the cab in the center pivot or on the top rack. They do this because the way the trucks are designed they can only accomodate the bigger vehicles in certain areas of the trucks. Also it may be required that once you release the car to the driver he may have to unload it and reload it several times to get other vehicles on and off, and no your car will not be the only one on the truck, the drivers get paid on how many vehicles that they can ship. For you to ship a non running vehicle across country it is going to be more expensive, you are going to have to get someone with a flatbed and a winch to pull it onto the truck. Ususally these trucks pull only two or three cars across country at a time and are more expensive because of the extra work they have to put into it. This is why this phrase is so important "Buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup or shipping" because you can easily spend $1500 trying to get it across the country in its current state. Tell him he should be aware it might be cheaper to fly out and rent a U-haul and car transporter (one of the full trailers not just the tow dolly) and use a come-along to get the car on the trailer.
Get ahold of white trash and get this guys number it is probably one of the better options you will have. Hopefully the guy runs out this way. Oh I just googled it is roughly 2,118 miles from Newark, DE to Salt Lake City, UT. So be prepared for a big bill.
A car on a long haul like that will probably be on 5 to 10 different trailers by the time it makes it to Utah. These shippers shuffle cars around like crazy. It is also very likely that the car will be off the trailer sitting in a lot for a few days waiting for another trailer to come pick it up. This is how the big shippers transport these cars across the country. If you are not in a hurry and can pick-up and drop off at the terminals.....it will save you some money.
Uship.com is mostly small independent carriers with dually trucks and smaller car trailers. A lot of them have winches to load and unload non running cars. I do not know if the guy I used goes out west. There are literally hundreds of small shippers on that website. The guy I used is named Carl and his number is seven one seven - seven five two - zero four four three. For some reason I figured it was better to write it out. If it were me I would try Uship and have shippers bid.
