amen....I think the only thing the smart car is good for is a place the body parts are kept when a semi runs it over.....
I would like to add too that Renault 5/Le Car - First thing to go, le brakes. AMC Pacer - The world first driveable fish bowl, they put so much glass in it so you could see the dumbass who bought it. (excludes 401-powered Pacers) Ford Aspire - *cough* Kia *cough* Pontiac Aztec/Buick Rendevous - get a brown paper bag and hold it over your mouth before you google it BMW Isetta - Oh, wait that is a bike GM EV1 - FAIL
No one mentioned the Vega??? or the pontiac scumbird???? THAT was the beginning of the end for american automobile manufactureing!! As soon as GM(generic machinery) discovered we would happily buy such a pile of yak dung in the name of fuel economy. The epitaph was written.Pacers were uglier than a pair of inbred siameese twins but they had a very good engine and as long as the tranny didnt give out they would go untill the engine rotted out of the car and fell on the ground. As a matter of fact that engine lived on in the Jeep line till... heck I think they still use it...Rot...rusty cars... I see em every day.Hondas...toyotas......Kia(I just threw up in my mouth a little bit)VW...Audi...Chevy... Ford... Chrysler products...ROT BOXES each and every one of them...and I am talking 3/4 yrs old .Nothing lives long up here. But the worst car??? that stinkin Vega. Neons any year...Lousey engines eat head gaskets/noisey f... pistons.Someone mentioned the PT snoozerWhat a mongrel that "thing" is...and dont get me started on the stupid horizontal hockey puck lower controll arm bushings that GM and chrysler use. All those cars have a 3 oil change service life then its time for front end work(stupid bushings)I would love to catch the engineer that thought that one up! New Toyota Camrys have the same set up but... they went one farther:To change the left one you have to pull the engineGM anything with a 3.1/3.4 who came up with the intake gasket set up on those??? 20 inch pounds of torque????No wonder the stupid things leak ALL THE TIME.Untill you put the good Fel Pro set in em for 80 bucks!! Where does GM get their steering racks from??? jeeze talk about junk.Chrysler still hasent learned...transmissions/Air conditioning evaporators When will they learn??? Ford... Taurus tranny governors/Coil springs:16suspect Crown vics "aod chatters going into overdrive" Any ford truck front suspention/steering parts IE: ball joints after 13,000 miles.Every time my boss cries about having me put ANOTHER fuel guage sending unit in yet ANOTHER 4 yr old GM product I cant help but remember the the fuel guage in BOTH of my 30 plus yr old Mavericks are dead nuts accurate(go figure) Hondas... one word..."TURD" available in many bright colors. Kia... gotta say it... darn good runners but there isnt a fastener on the stinking things that you can remove with out a torch and a few too many hail marys after its been on the road for 3 yrs.Saturns... wait till you have to do a wheel bearing on a View.Better bring a lunch cause it aint comin out without way too many colorfull words and 300 dollars worth of air hammer tools. Why do auto manufacturers think its a good Idea to interference fit steel parts to ALUMINUM. Torx fasteners... its a conspiracy... thats all I got to say about that.I wont even get into the european autos. I have ranted far to long allready(sorry) So... depending on your particular point of view. One would be inclined to think that all or most of the cars on the road today are the proverbial P.O.S.At least compared to the "worst" of 30 yrs ago.Maverick? one of the worst...? not by a long shot! and I am not being biased(as you can see I hate all cars)Other than the fact they rotted away as fast as ALL the other cars of the era and had lousey brakes...pretty lousey car to have such a great following and to have had immense popularity in its day.How many millions were sold???? more than the stinkin vega I'll bet.I would also venture to say that there probably are WAY more Mavs/Comets on the road today than the stinkin vega.As for the author of the book that started this thread. He never owned an american car(guessing here) just like the child psychologists who write best sellers on how to raise/nurture your children Never had kids of their own. I'm done... peace out!!!
Amen to all of this- next step is to e-mail all this to the gear box author who wrote this little crappy book, oh yeah.
I'll be brief - God, I LOVE this thread....., you guys have dug so deep and expounded so accurately. But I >still< stand behind my Pinto. Maybe standing in front would be safer. Chris
And I notice you didn't try to correct me on any of it. It's okay... You own a damn fine Maverick now. Well, it's probably okay. Which ones? And if it's the thing I said about the Mini Cooper that bothers you, I didn't mean anything negative. What you do in the privacy of your own home is your business. As long as you don't use that Mac in public or try to teach my kid about it. Actually, I've owned stuff in that list too... And I would totally buy a Magnum R/T right now.
The 86 Mustang with the 2.3 with a 4 speed had gears that were so far apart that it was hard to accelerate I'll have to concede on this one,but I liked it anyway The Honda Goldwing now is like a spaceship. I once owned an 85 wing and I have to say I loved that bike! It was fast and handled very well for a touring bike and it never broke down. I own a V twin cruiser now. As for the Excursion, this is one of my most favored vehicle next to the Maverick that I have ever owned. The only downside is the gas mileage. I can pack my whole family in it plus 2 dogs and tow my bike with the trailor to Daytona. I have owned it for 6 years and had it in the shop one time with a minor electrical problem that I couln't figure out. Plus if someone decides to wreck into it, at around 7,000 lbs the Excursion wins!!
Ah, well, alright. In '85 the Goldwing was still a bike, not a car, so that one doesn't count. And if your Excursion actually has a trailer hitch and uses it, then I'll give it an exemption.
I have two cars on the list!!!! My Pinto kicks ass. Small ass but it kicks it. 2.0 4-Speed trunk car. It's actually pretty quick. And it's more aerodynamic going backwards!!!
I take it you ALL love Fiero's It beat out the Vette in '84 to be the pace car in Indi 500 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_Fiero I would like to have an '89 model myself tho.
