Hi All, My car is "in paint", so I took a good look at my bumpers. The rear is a "10 footer" and the front is (at best) a "50 footer". I got two estimates for rechroming, one from Advance Plating in TN (they've been on HorsePower TV) for $650 ea! and the other from Superior Chrome in Houston, TX (right down the road) for $275 ea. Sent them to Superior yesterday, the turnaround time is 3 - 4 weeks, so I'll post back then. Russ
cool, let us know how it looks (like a bumper duh, silly me) but im serious, send me some pics when you get them back
Makes me glad i just got a newly chromed rear small bumper with brackets and new bolts for $210. and a rechromed front Comet small bumper for $250.
I had both my bumpers done at Dallas PLating in Dallas, GA for $160 each .... front one done 5 years ago and the back done 2 years ago ... the last one they did they thought it was some guys Camaro bumper and accidently moved it to the front of the line ... I had it back in like 4 days ....
Chroming seems to have taken a big leap in prices the last few years. Last set I had done was my Sprint back in 2002 from Tri City Plating. Cost back then was about $160 each. When I talked to them at Fall Carlisle this year, their price was now $300 each.
A lot more environmental laws have really lessened the amount of places that will do chrome plating. They have a hard time getting rid of the used chemicals.
I am anxiously awaiting results...That one in houston is close and the price seems fair. Both of mine are 20 footers.
I am picking up my rear bumper tomorrow at DC Bumper in Houston. I will pay them $200. It took twelve days. They did my front bumper last year and it turned out nice. Scott, Do you want to meet for lunch tomorrow?
Ed, wish I could. I would love to see that bumper, and it is pretty close to home, and right around the corner from work. I just work at home on Fridays to wrap up the paperwork for the week. Good to hear that there are several choices in the Houston area and I won't have to ship mine out.
Good News! The bumpers came back to me last night, all I can say is WOW what a great job! The pix can't do them justice, but here they are anyways. They were packed superbly in 5 layers. The outer shrinkwrap, a layer of heavy paper, a layer of bubblewrap, a layer dual-walled cardboard surrounding the individual bumpers which were wrapped in light paper. No way these were gonna suffer any scratch-type damage in transit. I'd recommend these guys to anyone. Scott, you could save a bunch since you're close enough to drive... Russ
