I like the dark ford blue better. In fact, I meant to paint mine that color, but the spray cans said "ford blue" and when I started spraying i thought, "this don't look right". got on the forum and found out that there is classic ford blue and newer ford blue. So watch what you buy.

 

Man you guys have some nice engines............

 

Light Ford blue is for 50s engines for the most part.
Dark blue came sometime in the 60s.

I didn't know the difference at one time and used the light.
I noticed that it looks dirty and dingy really easy.
The dark blue hides imperfections, fingerprints, and dirt/oil easier.

I dream (key word) of doing an aluminum Man-O-War block,
AFR heads, stroke/poke to the max, and filled inside with
titanium everything... yet the outside would look exactly like
your picture.

Now what shade of blue would you consider this.Light or dark?

Thats the best I have. Really need to take some updated pics. Engines the same just the compartment is black now. Like that factory sleeper look. Its so much of a sleeper I dont even know whats inside. Guy I bought it off had the drivetrain built for him. All I know is it has pretty blue roller rockers that I can see through the oil fill. Pretty sad when a tech with 20 years under his belt doesnt know whats under his hood. Oh well it sounds nice.

Thanks and yes. Although it needs to be cleaned up a bit, had to swap out valve covers to clear the roller rockers. I plan on removing the engine and painting/cleaing it and the engine bay later this year when I swap the C4 for a Toploader.

 

heres mine just black and alum, i got a deal on the blue pump or it would have been black aslo.

 

The dark blue is called "Ford Corporate blue" Ford started useing it in 69.Prior to that it was the light blue you see often.That goes back to 66.Before that ford would paint the blocks/heads black and use gold for Valve covers/air cleaner assemblies.From about 60/61 red was used for ford engines,that color goes back to about 53/54.Then you get into the flat heads they were grey/blue/green... depending on year and application.Confusin aint it!?

Kewl. I have the Maverick valve covers and roller rockers. I used the thickest gasket I could find. it was cork and steel laminated. I would have used a spacer if I had to. These engine bays are so small, it hides the engine. Can barely see the headers or the block. Mine is orange, wouldnt have been my choice, but I dressed it up with the valve covers and a nice air cleaner...
