Not to split hairs but...(I am)... Technically our mavs/comets are by definition "antiques"...they are more than 25 yrs old.Just dont let the pebble beach crowd find out...we will never hear the end of it:rofl2: Can you see a maverick or comet being compared to a Deusenberg or a Hispano Suiza. Mav guy :1st: 30 Deusenberg SSJ dual cowl pheaton owner:rant2:
I agree that they are just great old cars and lots of fun.

antique is about age not about thin metal fenders and crank start motors he he though those are antiques too I thought a car had to be 35 years old to acheive antique status though

I got friends with 80s silverados that have antique tags. its 25. thats for the tags, though. i don't really consider 80s cars antiques. Mavericks either for that matter, they're more of a "borderline" antique if you ask me...

hmm I wonder if the state classification varies? I honestly don't know in Iowa. My car has normal plates, is that a choice to get Antique ? in your state.

i really don't know. i reckon they wouldn't mind if you kept renewing regular plates on an antique car. my dad got the tags for it while i was at school. We dropped it from the insurance untill she's done, and if the government has a problem with that, they can you-know-what the tree it's parked under. Anyways, my vote officially is: whatever you make/want it to be. be it muscle, classic, hot rod, rat rod, beater, show car, trailer queen, whatever. whatever makes you happy. isn't that the whole point of owning/being a maverick?

Funny thing about a earlier reply stating that "It was a grannies car"
When I was telling people in my office that I was getting a Comet, all of the older guys (I'm 28, one of the yougin's of the company) they all said "My mom had one of those!"

Seriously I'd say 9 out of 10 guys here said that, however each of them said that it was a effin' cool car.

I would guess after 1973 the 302 Maverick would be one of the quickest cars Ford made, Mustang was a v6 pinto, everything else was too heavy, maybe a 460 f100 would be quicker even though it weighed more because it would be geared better, so that era it was the muscle car of the mid 70s! :yup:

the biggest engine the maverick came with stock was a 302. so no, like dmhines said, it's more of a pony car.
