There's a guy here on Craigslist selling a T-5 from a 4.6 Mustang. Here's the ad: "4.6 5 speed mustang transmission. bought for 5.0 would not work. tranny shifted good in prior mustang. $300" There's a photo of it less the bell housing and the shifter. Why does he say this won't work behind a 5.0L? It's just a matter of a bell housing to get it to bolt up, correct? On a similar note, wouldn't a T-5 from a Chevy application work with the correct bell housing?
I have never saw a T-5 behind a 4.6 these were T-45s, But the bell housing didn't come off, It was part of the trans case. NOW i'm not saying Ford Never did this just i haven't saw one. I had one of the first 4.6 mustangs there was and it had a T-45. I'm not sure on the GM trans except if you get like a TKO 600 the shifter placement is different as i'm sure the input shaft length would be different.
you are 100% correct, 4.6's use a t45 now, what to haave would.......well i may bee leakin some info here, so we keep this hush hush ok! I work for a BIG chrysler dealer, i had to take a class on the new vipers...well one big upgrade is the trans,,,,,, A new special for the Vipe a tremec TR6060 its the older T-56's big tough brother, has new gear ratio's and all kinds of new goodies. anyway its the same dimentions as the t-56 so a 5.0 t56 bellhousing and fork, correct shifter, and badda bing! bulletproof monster! one small problem, for ME to purchace one.......try 10k without all the conversion to 5.0 it!!!
Here are a few that are not as pricey. http://www.promotionpowertrain.com/1870533.html http://www.astroperformance.com/adv...id=7af93f47b5c2dd7b26741a428e6b7902&x=35&y=13
