A friend of mine told me I should change my fenders and hood to fiberglass to make the car lighter. Is there something like that? Would the car be really flimsy or would it look pretty nice?
For the little weight savings I don't think it is worth the hassle. Maverick fenders are pretty light as is. For the hood check out www.Maverickman.com Derrick's hoods are very nice. You could save shipping since your in LA.
Try this website out they have a buch of fiberglass maverick parts. http://www.up22.com/amx68.htm just scroll down to the maverick section. Hopefully this will help you out!
If it's going to be a street car mainly. Don't do it. Eventually they'll start cracking. And you'll be worried every time you park it that someone will lean up against it. My opinion is fiberglass fenders and bumpers are for race cars. The only piece I would even think of for a street car is a hood.
UP22 (Unlimted Products) parts appear to $uck really bad. I have never met anyone with their parts that was happy. Nor have I heard good things about their customer service. Like mentioned above, do a search here on the words fiberglass and UP22. You won't like what you read. And that is just this site. I have read the same comments on a dozen or more sites. Maverick Man's hood is carbon fiber. That is light years better than fiberglass. Light as glass, strong as steel. You don't have to prep it and trim it, and you don't even have to paint it if you like the look of CF. Fiberglass will have to be trimmed, fitted, primed, and painted. No way around it. So in the end, it will cost as much or more than a CF hood. I wouldn't bother with fenders or doors. Too much worry about flimsy parts.
ouch, those reviews aint too good! so sounds like the hood is a good option. and I can get it painted like any other part of my car right?
I don;t want you guys thinking I was trying to push the UP22 parts. I just saw them when I was searching for parts and remembered they had fiberglass fenders. But like everyone else says I wouldn't even bother with fenders, just do a hood if you really want to.
I have a Unlimited Product fiberglass hood on my car. I was not real happy with the quality, but I am sure that was skewed by the months and months of waiting for it after payment.
i know this is an old post but does anyone know of any good fiberglass fenders the car is not a race car so i want fenders as good as factory if not better. thanks
