Thanks for all the positive comments! I really appreciate it! I can't wait to get it to the roller stage. I'll be needing a good small block, so if anyone runs into something close enough for me to get, and KNOWS it's a good engine, let me know. While I'd love something wild and exotic like twin turbos, I simply don't have the bucks for that. Someone that has a stalled project with a built stroker motor or something would be just fine. It's going to be light, and the motor is set pretty far back, so it won't need a ton of power to go fast and handle well. I just want to get it going at first, then replace the motor with something wilder later; so I'd even consider a good, stock 302 at first. I have alot of speed parts already I can add. I'm planning on using an AOD, but Jack fabbed the trans mount to accept a C-4 or an AOD so I'm covered either way. And feel free to make any suggestions for things it should have. Just keep in mind that this IS a budget project even though it doesn't look like it. So things like twin turbos and exotic hardware like that are out - unless you happen to have stuff like that laying around you want to donate! Ha, ha, ha! Thanks again everyone. As soon as it's a roller, I'll send some in-progess pics to Mustangs and Fords, Popular Hot Rodding, and Hot Rod. They've all expressed some interest in it already, but if you notice, most of the time when they post in-progress photos, the car is at least a roller. But it's getting close, so maybe we'll see it in one of those magazines soon.
I'm diggin' it. It's nice that you're looking to the 240Z for making that nose work. Datsun pulled off a beautiful design all around with that car, and I think the Maverick shares enough in common with it visually that what works for the Datsun body should look great on a Mav. You might check out some of the aftermarket fiber available for the Z's. Might make the fabbing a little less intense, maybe save a few bucks... This is just my opinion, but with a front end like that, and all the room it looks like you're going to have, I think putting a stock 302 in it would be a travesty. Don't you think it would be just as cost effective to start off with a mild 351W or Cleveland? Maybe even a 429/460 or a mod?
Thanks for all the nice words Chuck,This is definitly a different project getting these big tires under this thing and making it so they can turn and be drivable!!! It's a challenge for sure..but now that we are far enough along that we have some direction as to where we are going,it's a really neat project, and is starting to come together real nice,Thanks for all the nice comments guys, keep you posted...Jack
Any particular 240Z pieces anyone finds that I can check out online, just let me know. I gave JR a photo of a 240Z fascia when he did the artwork, but I'm open to checking out any piece that will yeild a look similar to the artwork. I agree, it's a shame not to go with a big block, but actually, according to Jack, between the framerail width, steering linkage clearance, and even the turning radius of the huge front tires, a small block was almost a must without alot more expensive fabrication work. Oh, and if anyone has a set of 84-85 Mustang factory headers, that's what Jack suggests in order to have as much steering clearance as possible. Those shouldn't be too hard to come by. I put a set on my 85 LTD LX, but I don't want to take them off. So if anyone has a set or can get a set, let me know. Thanks again for the input. Keep it coming!
Motorsport Auto was the place to get that type of thing when I was into Z cars. You can get a free catalog at http://motorsportauto.com or check out some of their body stuff here: http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/BSC

I have always wanted to try a 240Z air dam on a Mav. There are several to choose from and they look so much better than the ones we have available for our cars. If you use one, please let us know how it fits, what has to be done to it, etc.
dam, your up there lol... might do that sometime, but the future of my maverick is really unsure or as of late... still a hell of a runner, just dunno how much longer i can keep it
So thats were that shell ended. I met a guy at carlisle (he lived by philly) that had that car for sale. Did you get the grumpy jenkins story. Supposedly thats who did the original work to that car back in the 70`s. He wanted me to buy it but I had to many pokers in the fire then. Good to see it went to someone thats going to complete it. Kinda like a happy ending in a story
