can somebody send me a link to somewhere i can find some rear air shocks for my 73 mav. and any information about air shocks, are there dif psi shocks for dif applications? thank you
Dont put airshocks on a Maverick!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats some baaad gree gree.The rear shock mounts will not take the pounding.
daaaang. doesn't sound good. that idea is down the drain.. see,i bought some 15'' american racing daisy's today. 15x7's and 2 15x10's. for 100. excellent condition. i know the front will work, but i put one rear rim on and it sticks out just a bit. it bums me out, i want to make them work but i just dont know how. help? does anyone want to trade my 2 15x10's for 2 15x7's?
Or have the offset on your wheels changed - or - get new wheels that will keep your tires inside the wheel wells.
Seriously, they will rip the mounts? I just put some really sweet air shocks a week ago on my maverick to lift the rear for wheel clearance. It handles way better on turns and quick braking than what it did before I added them. I have them set at 70 lbs. What a waste of cash
I once saw a whole section of the upper shock mount GONE because of air shocks. If you REALLY REALLY want to run air shocks, build a custom upper shock mount bracket and mount it to the frame rails. I have seen this done as well.
I had a set on my car since i owned it ( i got it around 94) Never had any problem but i never ran more than say 20 psi in them. But it sure looks like alot of others had issues.
Had a Sprint that I bought new, and being young and dumb, I put the air shocks on it to get the big tires on. First time I put some power to it, took the shock mounts right out. These cars don't like wheel-hop at all. Lots of welding and cussing insued! Not a good idea!
Has anyone reinforced the shock mounts for air shocks? Doesn't someone make coil-over rear suspensions for Mavs? Wouldn't they carry the rear end in the same area as the shock mounts? I was thinking air shocks would be nice for some occasional big tires.
I looked under my Maverick to check the rear shock mounts, They are not welded, they are bolt on brackets about 7 inches long and about 1/4" thick. the bolts look like 9/16" heads. Are these after market? I hope they can support the air shocks for a while until I am able to get a pair of some gas charged and fabricate some leafspring lifts.
The shock mounts bolt to a stamped brace that is spot welded to the floor pan.The brace will tear off the pan or you will rip the mount off the brace.Not alot of meat there.It is meant to hold the shocks to the car,not support the cars weight...which is what you are doing when you air up those shocks.
