I Really like the taillights on the 67-68 Cougar XR7 (Shelby) Taillights. Does anyone know how much of a mod it is to fit those on a 72 Grabber?? I'm trying to keep my grabber all ORIGINAL, but the maverick taillights are SOOOOO Bland! Thanks, Chaz.
If you modify the taillights any then its not all original, value will go down dramatically, even if done right, and you end up with a car that doesnt look right to a lot of people. IMO the cougar taillights on a maverick doesnt look right, theyre just too big, but to each their own. My two cents anyways.
I dis agree honestly have you seen razyor sharps car? His car would probably bring the most money out of all of ours...But it is your car do what you want to do your car dont worry about selling it dont build your mav to sale build it to the way you want to see it.
Thanks...and I do agree. If tail light mods are done tastefully you will not hurt the value of your car. I personally don't like the Cougar lights though. I think they stick out too far to look good and the base of them aren't flat so they won't fit well anyway. Bobcat lights look okay. Do a search for "tail light conversion" and you should find several threads about them with lots of pics. There are quite a few of us that have done this.
67 Shelby.... they use the same lense but sit better (after you cut out the raised part or install a Shelby panel of course )
If i had the time and money i would do shelby tail lights but i have neither or experience to do it so im sticking with blacked out originals
mavericks dont have a restored orignal colectable value. a well modified one will more money than a stock one. the only exceptions would be a rare version of the maverick like the stalion or if you can prove it exisits a shelby or boss maverick. put what ever tail lights you want. dont be scared on trying new things. you wont know how to do anything if you dont try.
We should be more specific when we toss out the terminology of "Shelby tail lights". The 1968 cars used 1965 Thunderbird tail lights, also found on 1968 Mustang California Specials. Shelbys also used 1967-68 Cougar tail light lenses with a different surround on 1967 Shelby Mustangs.
i actually have seen a grabber in the bay area with the 68 style lights and he did a good job, wish i had pics. they looked very nice and he had the relay set up so they worked right.
Mine are setup sequentially also. There is a company called Web Electric that makes the sequencers at a very reasonable price.
call me crazy but i think 1st gen Camaro lights would look bitchin' on a mav. I got bobcats on mine and i like them.
If that is the company i am remembering, they worked better (more consistantly) than the stock cougar style ones with less current draw.
