Painted my Mav yesterday

I plan on putting the clear coat on after blackening the lowers/rocker panels and doing some touch up and spot painting, plus buffing it out a bit.

 

I painted my 71 F100 myself under a tent after reading a couple of books on it. I had about $500 in paint also. Mine turned out pretty well also. I still get compliments on it. Heck, after I painted it I had several people pull up next to me asking who painted it. Feels good to do something like that yourself and get compliments on it. Mine was a single stage paint. No runs or orange peel but a couple of places should have been a bit wetter.

I worked on the bodywork a solid week and finally realized I was running out of vacation time and figured I better shoot it so I could have time to put it back together. As soon as I hit that first shot of color on it I could clearly see every little bit of body work I did on the truck. I was SO disappointing but figured I might as well keep on spraying. It turned out alright and still looks pretty good. Mine is a 10 footer at the most but looks better than primer and rust

I have thought about getting another gallon of the orange base and putting another coat or two of the color on. With this being a self leveling paint I figure it might help with some of the mild scratches that I have found and also bury some of the photographing primer that I can see up close. Idunno, maybe a color sand and rub out would help some, but I am just afraid of rubbing through the paint or making it worse. At least with another coat on it I know that I would have a lot of paint on it to work with.

Yep, as long as baseball is done I will be able to make the cruise, or at least the meet-n-greet at Denny's anyways.

Thanks man. I have a lot still left to do though. I am thinking about ordering another gallon of the orange base color and hitting it another time or two before the clear. I have been looking in the 3 different books that I bought on bodywork and painting and they all suggest that I should do that with the bit of striping and touch up that I should do. I guess that I am just being critical of my own work.

Yep, it sealed the deal when you sent me pictures of yours a couple of weeks ago. I am going to do similar blackening of the lowers and possibly the hood like you did. Is that a flat black?

 

no when i cleared mine i cleared the black also. then wet sanded, so you cant feel the thr stripe.

Thanks MAVOWAR. I forgot to add that I did recoat the car one more time with the quart of left over paint that I had. It really helped with the striping and got some more color on the lower doors. Now I am just debating whether or not I really want to clear the thing. What a waist of paint if I don't though....
