Hello I have a 1970 Maverick and I am looking to get rid of the shock towers and was wondering if anyone else has done this and what you would recomend for the swap. I have been looking into the pinto and fox body mustang any ideas or pics would be great thank you. Dustin.
That's a good question, I have a 72 Grabber 302, Im looking 4 better steering-Braking and more room for exhaust what direction could be taken?
I think what we are looking for is something more budget minded I have a 1972 351 CJ that I want to fit in with maybe a little room to still get the spark plugs out with out having to yank the motor to do so. All of this comes with the I have a wife budget to work with ya know gotta keep mommy happy while you are building.
ME TOOO!!!!! I second that! i had this idea, but have not done any reserch or measuring. what if you could buy a whole tubular front end for a fox or sn95 mustang and fab some brackets to bolt it up? coilovers and 13 inch brakes sounds good to me! i already have a fox oilpan for my cleveland.
Anything can be done if you have the time, money ,tools, and skills..... IMO the Rod and custom is still the best bet in the long run. It fits has proper geometry and isn't priced to bad at 1995. for the basic kit. You can do it you have a welder and various air tools to cut out the shock towers... Way easier then cobbling up something else You could also go the route THack did and use Jaguar suspension.... Really neat!!!!
fox body cars and sn95 cars have shock towers still. granted they dont have springs in them. i belive that the frame rail in the fox body sits higher in the car than the mavericks. so if you put a fox k member in it will raise the maverick.
You will still come out cheaper time and money using a R&C rack and pinion kit than trying to get a Pinto or Mustang II sheet metal welded in place to make the factory rack and pinion suspension setup. The kit is designed to fit a Maverick, the factory stuff was designed to fit a Pinto or designed to fit a Mustang II
The Rod and Custom is a MustangII set up just set up correctly to work on a maverick wth out cobbling it up. The best benefit is no shock towers=just about any engine choice you can imagine, more space to work on engine, and the suspension itself just has better ride and steering performance from the get go. Tons of after market parts available, weighs less as well.....
http://www.rcmotorsports.net/Mustang.html an early mustang with a MII setup from Rod and Custom http://www.rcmotorsports.net/Mustang.html the regular and coil over set up http://www.rcmotorsports.net/Pg2Link.html full kit http://www.rcmotorsports.net/Pg3Link.html and you can upgrade from there my setup was 4500.00 with six piston road race calipers 13 inch rotors etc....
mustang II fronet end I put the pinto front end under mine, I have enough room now for any engine combo available, lots of room, I plan to run a high port clevenad, engine, one of these days I ever finish with other projects I have started.
Mustang II Front end Here's some pictures of mine. I didn't install it. I just recently bought this car. If you go to the new member page and check out 1971460Maverick you will see more pictures.
