Hello all, I've recently started working on my 72 Maverick and have found some pretty serious rust, mostly in the trunk. My question is: is there any place that makes reproduction trunk pans for Mavericks? If not would one out of say a 66 style Mustang work? Also, I believe the lower part of the back panel(where the taillights are) will need to be replaced as well. Is there anyone that makes these or will I need to find a donor car? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Think the only sheet metal that's reproed is full quarter panel skins. I bought some Mustang repair panels (front floors and outer wheel well) but didn' find them all that helpful for what I needed. Don't know about the trunk floor. Doubt that the Mustang tail light panel will help you much.

I hope you've scrutinized all the rust prone areas such as cowl vent, torque boxes, rocker panels, cabin floors, roof on vinyl tops, etc before you start buying things or doing any repairs. I think the rust is always worse than it first appears. Mine was.

There are no reproduction panels for what you need. The Mustang uses a drop in tank so their trunk floors are not even close. You'll have to get one out of another car or patch what you have.

Thanks for all your answers, that's what I figured. The car really doesn't have any bad rust except for the the trunk area but it's pretty bad. I think the trunk had a nasty leak which lead to the damage and it set for a long time, even before I got it 8 years ago. Will definitely be replacing some seals. It went all the way through the trunk pan, the bumper mounting bracket, the last part of the frame rail on the passenger side and the bottom part of the tail panel. I've already found a replacement frame rail and bumper mounting brackets so I guess now all I need is to find a donor car. Thanks again for the replies!

Glad you have a handle on what's needed. Threw up the warning 'cause others have started a project only to find more than they wanted to deal with. Good luck with it. Hope you'll post some pictures as you go. And, :Welcome:

i'm in that boat... good new is I think the cowls are ok on ours, the windsheild front and rear gaskets are leaking pretty badly. I'm pretty much finished with one side of the floor pans are far as repairs and about 75% done on the other side.. all custom made 14 gauge (.079) steel (really stiffened up the torque bax area) that was hand formed by me, using a hammer and anvil (well more like the side rests of an old wrought iron bench... turned out pretty nice :)

Now in the hunt for a hood, decklid, drivers door and have to repair a small section in the trunk... oh well, life will go on :)

Oh yeah, just prdered 2 new quarters as well... pretty good deal on them, so I have to replace them as well...FUN! YAY!

Yeah I can't give up on it, it was my very first car. I'm sure I may find a few more places that need to be repaired along the way, but hopefully none as bad as what I have so far. Just may take a little longer, that's all. ;)

    :Welcome: to the board.

Definitely understand where you're coming from with not wanting to give up on up your first car. This is the length I'm going through to try and save my first one, a '74 Grabber that got hit hard in the front by a Lincoln Navigator when I was on my way to school one morning back in November 2005. I now own 9 Mavericks, but none of them can replace that one. That one is just... "mine", and I'll do anything to save it.

Good luck, and keep us updated with your progress!
