I was inspired by something Jamie did. I'm not proud of it, but I admit it. I put '67 Caprice taillights on my car and I think they look awesome. (Thank you Jamie for the writeup, and Dennis for the original idea) So it got me thinking... Even with M A V E R I C K written in 2" tall letters across the rocker stripes on my doors, people still have trouble identifying what the hell I drive. And now, with the look of the rear radically altered, it got me thinking about sticking on some of these emblems I have laying around. I did some experimenting, took a few pics, and I want to get your opinions. I already think I know what I want to do, but I'd like to see if popular opinion agrees with my warped sense of aesthetics. Option 1: Ford and Maverick on the right side Option 2: Ford and Maverick on the left side Option 3: Ford on the left side Option 4: Ford on the right side Option 5: Ford and Maverick on the right side Option 6: Ford on left, Maverick on the right side Option 7: Ford on right, Maverick on the left side Option 8: Too much clutter. Leave 'em off and keep them guessing! Stay tuned next week for "Backup Light Placement Poll" ...maybe. Thanks!
A pic for Option 8, which I predict will win by landslide... Can't wait for my backup lights to come in. I think these lights really fit the car well.
Put the Maverick emblem on the right side of the Grabber spoiler. The Caprice taillights look awesome!! My idea for the backup lights is to replace the red area in the two vertical bars with clear lenses (not totally transparent, just clear with a pattern on the back side). I got a couple of the rectangular 80's style Ford dome light lenses like this at Pull-A-Part that I was going to cut up and do it with. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. Then either put some W5W bulbs behind them or maybe super bright LED's. Obviously it would require cutting and modifying the tail light buckets.
Sounds cool! I have old housings, new lenses and new gaskets on the way so I can use early Mustang backup lights in the valence... Also, I just made an interesting discovery. I don't know what condition your Caprice bezels are in, but if they're like mine there is a dull factory coating over the chrome that's half gone. I just tested some Aircraft Remover in an inconspicuous spot, and it came right off exposing fresh and beautiful finish that hasn't seen the light of day in 42 years. Looks like I'm gonna have to pull these things apart again and get to work!
Yea, when I got mine someone had already stripped the paint off one, but it was still on the other so I stripped it as well. The Mustang backup lights will look cool!
Since you have a rear spoiler, why not put it (Maverick) on the passenger side portion of the spoiler just like on the originals?? Then either leave the Ford off or put it below in where you currently placed it on the pass. side. Good luck and be sure and post a pic of your decision in the end!
That did occur to me, but I think I need to score a smaller emblem for that to look right. May do it though...
I just took 'em all apart, stripped and polished the bezels, then wet sanded the lenses with 2000 grit and polished them with Meguiar's Plast-X. What a massive difference!
i like people not knowing what the car is. its a good converstation starter and people are more interested in it than mustangs, camaros, the other popular car that are a dime a dozen.
Yeah, it's cool when people compliment the car and are surprised to find out it's a Maverick. It's even more fun when somebody goes into a long spiel about it and he realizes after he's been talking for 10 minutes straight without a breath, that he's been reminiscing incorrectly and/or trying to impress me with knowledge about about a completely different car. I expected that to happen when I didn't have any emblems on it, but I thought it would stop when I put the "MAVERICK" rocker stripes on it. Nope, not at all. All that did was add to the hilarity. Of course, sometimes people know exactly what it is and still have nice things to say. That's always the best. Alright, I guess the "no emblems" crowd wins. I'll get that sticker out of the window too. It's been there long enough and the more I look at these pics the more I think it doesn't look right.
