I just got my car back recently from paint and wanted to take rear panel off sand the clear coat down and rattle can it with rustoleum semi gloss what do you think? I painted grille and head light bezels with that paint and came out almost identicle to grabber or mustang boss rear panel sheen
You could scuff it and paint it but...How old is the fresh paint??? You may want to wait a bit before topcoating new paint. It can be rather un-coperative from time to time.
I think you would be better off with a real auto paint - like a spray bomb of Duplicolor. I have not had much success with rustoleum.
Well, to begin with, I think you're gonna have a heck of a time taking the rear panel off...if you are talking about the tail light panel. This panel is welded in...they don't come off.
I did mine a while back with duplicolor. Turned out real nice. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=53411
kragen has cheap auto paint that is better for cars, do not use rustoleum! if the paint is super fresh you need to let it cure before scuffing and adding as stated above, also so you can mask off the area and not end up with tape glue in your clear or fogging from it in your clear.
Im glad you said that I kept going back to the first post trying to figuer out which part he was talking about.
i personaly would let the paint cure for about a week.then take the tail lights out, mask off the tail panel and spray it duplicolor flat blk.let it fully dry for the day.then get a can of duplicolor saten clear and put a mist coat on first then spray one even coat on.it will look gloss at first but it will "flash out" as a nice saten blk. it gives depth and a classy look to it thats nice.
