    I'm just curious, is it a 73?

Is that bracket that the idler pulley attaches to going to fit your engine with that big HEI cap? Looks like it will be a close fit, if it doesn't hit the dizzy....

Yeah, it will be close but not too bad. I was prepared to go Duraspark if I had to, but I measured today and it looks like it won't be an issue. I think the biggest problem I'll face will be making new holes in the firewall for the heater core and plugging the old ones.

Here's the latest status... It's Saturday, and I'm heading back for Memphis tomorrow after I put a master cylinder, two more shocks and a heater core in Dad's truck. I came down here for the week with plans to swap a transmission, pull AC components, install AC components, and do some work on that truck for Father's Day. I underestimated the amount of work in the transmission job, and the extent of the little things Dad's truck needed, but I still thought I would have time to install the AC until I hit a little snag last night.

Last night/this morning I pulled out the AC from the donor Maverick. Most of that went pretty smoothly. The controls and vacuum lines are very nice, the AC box has an insignificant crack that I'll need to fiberglass but nothing major. It does have a rodent's nest in it, but I knew I'd be tearing that down and cleaning it up at minimum. I mentioned concerns about the AC system not having any pressure (and thus a leak somewhere), and about the fact that it "threw a belt" which made me worry about the compressor. Well my worries are over about the compressor. I found that the tensioner pulley was seized, so that's almost certainly the cause of the belt problem. I can get another one, or get bearings, no big deal... And I found the source of my leak. I found the condenser was damaged in the wreck, That's pretty lame since I was just talking about the nice new condenser it had. Oh well. Just need to match up the fittings at Pull-A-Part or buy a new one if I don't see something I like there.

I left the vacuum canister in the donor car because it looks pretty nasty and I was talking about getting another one anyway, and the heater control valve is rusty so I'll want another one of those... So, before I can install this stuff I need to get four more parts - condenser, tensioner pulley, vacuum canister and heater control valve. And of course I will be cleaning, sanding painting and generally refurbishing a few things. So, maybe next weekend, maybe the weekend after... Very soon though. I don't want to lose momentum. I've got literally everything else I need except those four parts.

I am so exhausted though. What a week!

    More pics...

A few more... Notice the little critter in the first pic. That's the biggest walking stick I've seen in a while. Found her roaming around among the spark plug wires. (We found a number of God's little creatures in there, including a nest of wasps and a few spiders. One brown recluse also.) My little son loves bugs and this one's a rare find, so I took the walking stick back for him to see. He was fascinated of course, and delighted watching it crawl up and down my arms and head. I think I might get a little aquarium and keep it as a pet for a while.

And the last pic... You can see where I've been spinning my tires trying to pull the other Maverick up the hill. Interestingly, they both spun. I have to investigate that further. Maybe I don't have an open diff after all. (?!) But the reason I took that pic - look at the load this thing is carrying! I have the back seat full of AC stuff, a toolbox and a fan in the passenger seat, and in the back is a spare tire, a trans jack, my main (heavy!) toolbox, two floor jacks, four jackstands, and assorted other stuff. Keep in mind my leaf springs came from an Econoline 150!

Don't even think about reusing the dryer with the system being empty and you opening up the system and the amount of moisture in the air you have this time of year the dryer will be junk before you get home . Dryer are cheap about 20 to 30 bucks at a a/c supply house..

    Nope, they're harmless herbivores...

Had to sling a heater core in Dad's truck real quick. Heading back to Memphis in a few!
