Has anybody changed their power steering to manual. If so how did you like it? IT would be nice to not have to deal with all those hoses and control valves plus it would look a cleaner under there and give you more room. It`s the wife`s car she said could live without power steering and it`s a weekend cruzer car. Thanks for any input.
Manual steering on a mav/comet is the way to go IMHO...Paralell parking can be a bit tough but not so bad as one would think.Just converted my Sprint to manual and wouldnt have it any other way.Just dont go super wide on the front tires or it will feel like parking a dump truck when you have to swing that wheel around...
i've been kicking the idea around of going to manual steering too. what parts needed when changing over?
I converted to manual some years ago and like it, and yes it parks like a truck, But when i nail it ,it go's in a straight line with no wandering
To convert power to manual, you need: manual steering box, pittman arm [mounts on bottom of steering box], and the manual centerlink. Some have used the power box just by changing the pittman arm and center link, but the steering will be a bit harder due to the different ratio's of the boxes. I have 215-60-15's on the front of mine, and it steeres pretty easy, except when sitting still. An even narrower tire would probably steer a bit easier.
http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=53375&highlight=power+manual+steering&page=5 i put on the manual adapter made by mustang parts houses. also had to adjust the alt brackets set in order to place it in line with the water pump.
Sure did,ive been through about 5 Mavericks in the last few years. It was nice too 5.0 roller,t-5,9 inch detroit locker. 74,I converted it to small bumpers.Workin on a 64 Falcon now,5.0 with a t-56 tranny,4.56 gear 9 inch. Im gonna stop, send me a message
dose the mustang manual drag link fit mavericks was woundering if the 68-70 mustang steering stuff fits ower cars
My first maverick I converted to Manual steering. No biggie except tight parking. Current maverick came with manual steering, again, no biggie. My only concern is once I get her running the way that I want and my daughter starts to drive it that she might have some problems with it. We'll see.
Steering sector is different, Mav uses the '68-'71 Fairlane, Torino, Falcon, Ranchero, etc box(larger and bolt pattern different different from Stang)... Mustang/Torino center links are too long but most of the other front end components are same... The '71-'73 Stang is basically same as '70... Size of tie rod ends and spindle/bearing changed from '69 to '70 models on all... Also applies to 69.5 Mav components are same size as other '69 intermediates...
Hello everybody, I found a 66 Mustang part out locally and it comes with manual steering components. Can I use anything out of it to install on a 70 Maverick?
