I was so excited to be working on my car again. (All the guys helping me work on the car got sick and now the body guy is better.) I just bought a car cover, turning cam, and am inquiring about a fender. it feels good to click "buy it now" for the Mav. Anxious to get back and deal with the floor (flat sheet metal route) and the rear end. If anyone has a disc rear end near Baton Rouge, a maverick road trip sounds like fun. This list of things to do on the car is getting smaller and smaller, but someone keeps adding things to the bottom anybody go on a buying frenzy lately?
I spent the last 4 months on a spending spree to get the Yonkers Sprint up and running...LOL...Someone keeps adding to my list too
I don't know how apt I am at modification for the rear end. I know nothing about them and have been taken a course via the threads on the board. I would like a 9" but I believe an 8" requires little to no work? I read about having to change the drive shaft or cutting axles and can see the machine shop seeing me coming... $$$ short answer: what ever will work best as long as its discs and 5 lug Must be the same guy
8 inch drum to drum 200.00 and the nine inch housing axles backing plates just bolt in and add center (gears) of your choice 300.00 will be in mongumtery al this weekend
Yeah I just bought a 347 stroker long block with TFS aluminum heads and custom grind camshaft, having PaulS build me a tranny, had Grabber hood, chin spoiler, rear spoiler, sport mirrors painted, bought an intake, MSD 6AL, hooker 6901s, tach and guages and still need torque converter and few little items. So I think that qualifies as a spending spree I was thinking about having some stickers made that say Ebay Inside
I got off the phone today with the shop that has been building my 331 for 2 years and its not gonna happen. Gonna try to do it myself. 347 sounds fun. I wanted to go that route. Send me those ebay stickers. I'll have to make some up that say student loans as well
If you just want rear disc brakes and you already have a 5-lug 8" rear, it's fairly easy to use '96-'01 (I think '01) Explorer brakes. My AC project seems to be going that way... I should get the last piece tomorrow! (Ebay, of course.)
My nickname at work is rayBay. My car has been built with several eBay spending sprees. Hell...I haven't stopped yet! I have right at 2000 feedbacks...100% positive I might add. My eBay id is "vintageautoparts".
Faceless, I've been trying to get to the bottom of what I need to outfit the rear end with brakes. I just rather get a maverick one that's already done.
If your looking for any parts check out my thread im parting out a 71 once its completely parted out im going to buy 2 more mavericks so i should have quite a few maverick parts for sale soon.
I'm not kidding, it's really easy. Less effort and less money than swapping the whole rearend. Just hit a Pull-A-Part type place, pull the brakes off an Explorer, and follow Frank's tech article.
