I like it, looks great and the dog dish caps are sweet too. I guess i will see 'em on Wednesday - right.
Looks great!... nice contrast with that bright blue... and the lovely (functional) Eliminator scoop. Can anyone tell me what those HUBCAPS ARE CALLED? Someone said "dog dish" or "poverty caps"...? I want a set for my Comet but tried looking them up yesterday (there are - apparently - about a hundred different Ford OEM hubcaps).
I had to pay the stripe guy to do this one. Would have cost me double what he charged (100)in wasted stripes.
Looks good. I think mine just turned green with envy... It knows it knows that at the rate I am going, that it may never run, let along get new paint.
Dog dish. I saw 2 sets on ebay recently. Nice used set a few days ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ford...rQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_500wt_1182
Well I grabbed a pic of our body men with the car. Bob who did the majority of the body work with me is leaving so I got them together for a pic. I cant thank these guys enough. Without the help and direction of these guys the car would still be as I bought it. Many late nights and Saturdays at the shop over the course of a year. Also a big thanks to my employer. How many other employers out there would let us do this on our own time? As much as I complain about my job they are good people. This car was very important for me to finish and I hope they all realize how grateful I am. Left to right, Tim,Charlie,Bob and Rocky our painter. Tim is our collision tech and does great work fitting panels and massaging metal. Charlie is our old fart that can make complete skins from scratch and no project is too big. Crazy. Bob is or was the manager and an excellent body man that manages to put out quality work at the speed of light. When this guy gets in gear he left me in the dust, Literally. Rocky our painter is second to none. Amazes me with his talent and knowledge. Its an art. He makes it look so easy. All these guys make it look easy. Believe me its not. Many days I just shook my head at the difficulty of the job the do every day. I thought my job as a tech was hard. Its second to the job they do and for quite a bit less pay per hour. They are way under paid. Anyhow I think that covers the thank you thing.
That was cool Darren to show the guys that did the work on your car. I must say now that i have seen your Maverick in person all i can say is.... damn them guys done did a great job - first class work all the way. If i had the coin i would hire those guys in a heartbeat, great stuff!
I like the opened up hood. It gets lots of cold air and seems to work very well. I'm glad it was already done. I would have cut the hole in the wrong place for sure. The guy who did it is a member on here. Hes the one that built the drivetrain in the car 2 owners ago. He did a fine job and finished it very nicely under the hood. It has a factory look with the steel valve covers and emission stickers etc. Heres a clip out of the thread I posted after we found the builder. After a few pm's it turns out that he is the former owner of my car and the engine builder. He sold the car to the fellow I bought it off. Spent some time on the phone with him tonight. What a great guy to talk to. What a hoot. A guy bought the car for 500 bucks in Texas and put a head gasket in it then drove it to Michigan when he got out of the Air Force. A couple of brothers bought it off him and swapped out the 6 for a 302 and his wife bracket raced the car for 2 seasons. The car then sat for a while till the guys brother decided to make a street racer/sleeper out of it. Terry bought it off him then dropped a valve in it destroying the 302. ( I think I got the story right?) Terry rebuilt a 302 ho roller for nitrous with E7 heads, port work, x303 cam, forged pistons, fly cutt, file fit rings for nos, roller rockers and all the goodies to match the cam. The trans is done with the extra clutches and the usual C4 tricks. He installed the 4:11 locker as well. He ran the car to a best of 11.89 in the quarter on a 125 shot of nos. ITs really good to finally know whats in the motor. He had some good street racin stories from nights in Detroit. He sold the car about 11 years ago to the guy I bought it off just over 2 years ago. He highly suggested I put a 125 kit back on since its built for it. I may just do that in the future to give it a few good runs down the track. He said the car is a monster when the nitrous comes on through second gear. He had it set up as a sleeper for the street which is why it still had the column shift and bench seat. Hes seems happy with what I've done to the car and kept the sleeper look. He has a bunch of pics from when he had the car and was working on it that hes going to scan and email to me. Very cool to get some solid history on my car. I would have never found the builder and got all this cool history about my car if it wasnt for this forum and its members. Thanks guys!! and a huge thanks to SVOPRO for spending the time on the phone with me. It was very cool.
