You can do it several ways. Sandblast it, sand it, spray a rust inhibitor on it or...... Wait, the best way to get rid if the rust is to cut it out and weld good metal in it's place. clint
your bumpers dont look to bad to me... how about going all thw way and getting smal;l bumpers or painting them body color
chrome is tough to paint. Some people here have been able to sand the chrome down pretty well and they painted it successfully. I would say it's worth a shot. Chrome just doesn't look right after you try to puff rust out of it, so don't try. But if it's shot just pain it and see what happens.
best way to strip chrome off a bumper is get a can of spray on oven cleaner and spray the bumper, set it out in the sun for a couple hours and the chrome comes off, then paint it
Or try a super fine steel wool. you can get it at a hardware store. we sell it at Grainger i use it to bring the shine back to chrome trim and bumper and to take off small spots surface rust
what is the effect of the oven cleaner removal? does it still need to be sanded to get all of the chrome off or does it come off with a puddy knife?
Oven cleaner won't remove chrome, if it did there would be alot of pi$$ed off house-wives, all their oven racks would be bare metal.
so would I just get the bumpers sandblasted to remove the chrome best then or just scuff it with sandpaper and then paint? I'm sure there are alot of ways to do it. Just trying to find the best way.
Take them to a chrome shop and have the chrome removed. But whatever you do don't paint them black, it looks like crap!! (unless your car is black) Rusty chrome is better anyday, kinda like "Patina"
