Anybody know a reason why I shouldn't use paint stripper on those little end pieces that bolt onto either side of the trun above the tail lights? I don't know what they're called. There are two little pieces that look kind of like horns that bolt on somewhere too. Wondering if I'd cause problems using a stripper on them? Thnx
There are two kinds....metal and urethane. If the metal ones, no problem, strip away. Be carefull if they are the urethane ones. Sanding would be the best for them. Yours should be metal.
hmm... how would I tell if they are urethane? my concern was that they would be a really hard plastic (i guess that's urethane). They feel like metal.... They've got so much paint on them it's hard to tell even after scratching a part of it. would urethane be a different color or did they make it gray/metal colored to screw with us?
Go inside the trunk, and there are three studs and nuts that hold them on. Another way is to just scratch one where you won't see it, and see. The urethane ones are softer and will bend a bit. The urethane ones are black, I think. The metal ones are pot metal, and gray metal. Best to take them off when you strip them anyway, so you can get all the old paint and dirt off. Good luck!
Thnks. I just went to town on the backside of one of them and it looks like metal. what a pain. They were already off of the car (didn't even know I had them) but for whatever reason the previous owner painted the hell out of the back side too. They are metal. gaskets. that's a good point. they didn't have any old ones on them when I found them. Are they that important to have gaskets on? I've gotta move the car 200 miles once it's painted. think it's better to just leave them off until I get to where I'm going and can get gaskets?
Oh, I have no clue what those parts are called either. There are alot of gaskets on these mustang sites.. "thingy by the trunk gasket" didn't get any search results if you can believe that lol.
oh jebus. those rubber pieces are dinky. I think I'll order them once I get where I'm going and just get this thing on the road.
