they are much better than slapper bars, they are pretty simple to make on your own if you or a buddy can weld.i will admit that it is a lot eaier to just buy them.you need to make a solid front bushing for the leaf spring also.

calvert racing can make them for any leaf spring vehical. they do have them for the maverick. they are alot beter than slapper bars. slapper bars only work till around the 12.0 range in the 1/4. there are lots of 8 sec 1/4 mile cars running cal tracs.

A post by someone a couple of months ago said traction bars could have a negative effect on braking. Any differerence between slapper bars and CalTracs in that regard? Doesn't seem like slapper bars would affect braking.

Cant see them interfering with braking. Weight transfer is to the front which unloads slappers in the rear.

Yes, you can make them for pretty cheap, but add in labor, and you might end up better just buying them new from Calvert, and then you get the FREE sticker!!!

I paid $300 NIB for my set of Caltracs. So I don't consider them to be one of the more expensive modifications to my car.

Definitely changes the suspension feel. You can really feel the weight transfer even on light takeoffs. And absolutely NO wheelhop. I never noticed any difference at all in braking, and don't see how they can affect it in any way.

I agree 100%! I love my CalTracs...and they also look better than slapper bars! :)

This is a great thread! I know I need some kind of axle wrap and wheel hop control. Know what old leaf springs are like in panic stops. Haven't decided what to do yet but now I understand the issues and options better. That's what I like about the Forum.

Slapper bars still work great on the average steet car to reduce wheel hop. They are better than having nothing at all.

But on braking??? While driving my all stock Mustang, I had a teenage girl back out in front of me and block the whole road. In a panic stop the rear wheels were hopping like mad but the front brakes were working and I had no choice but to stay on the brakes. I'm looking to solve that problem too. Would slapper bars help with wheel hop during braking? How about CalTraks :hmmm: Hope I'm not hijacking.
