my work truck was painted by them a year and a half ago. it was the higher end one that they offer. so far its holding up really well. still glossy, no pealing. they even put tire shine on and detailed the black trim so it looked really good when we picked it up. my opinion with maaco is that its a gamble and do not expect a show stoping paint job.

Because Maaco's are a franchise each and every one is completely different as to how they handle things. One shop may actually care and give you your money's worth while the one the next town over may screw you every way from Sunday!

It has been proven that the average Maaco paint job, or repair goes out the door costing just as much as any regular body shop. By the time they talk you up for this and add that, and oh, you want that dent fixed too right. It just keeps adding up.

A friend of mine prepped his 89 Blazer. Took it apart as much as he could, mirrors, door handles etc... They 2 toned it for under a grand and it lasted at least 6 years. Looked really good too.

You get what you pay for.

I had a car painted there years ago, it held up real well, I even got hit, and they touched it up, and it was hard to tell. But that shop wen out of business years ago now, I think they were doing too nice of a job, compared the other one on the other side of town, they were next to Earl Scheib...anything looked good comapred to the work they did :D

yes it was rust the whole passenger side of my car was like that. Ended up stripping the car down to bare metal re primered over it the bad part is the maaco paint came off easily with a paint scraper and for the most part the original paint underneath it looked 100 times better. They only sanded a few spots and the rest they just sprayed the primer over the factory paint so the rust ended up in the sanded spots and all of the spots over the original paint cracked and started flaking off really bad.

Having been working on painting mine for the last month, I can tell you the devil is in the details. If you want a top notch job, you either pay or you do it your self. I'm no pro, and don't claim to be, but do know the finished product is only as good as the prep you [or who paints the car] does. I have found several dents that I thought I had gotten out, only to have them show up when you get the glossy paint on them. I am going to resand some areas of mine and then respray it again until I get it the way I want it. If you can do the bodywork yourself, do it, and then take it somewhere to be sprayed. If you can't, you will be better off to find a bodyshop that will do it for you, but most bodyshops won't work on stuff like that because they can make more money off of fixing insurance wrecks. Bodywork and paint is a big job, and those that do it for a living earn their money. $1500 for a top line job is a bargin! If you have ever done one yourself, you know how much time and labor goes in a good job.:Handshake

Either find a one or two man shop out in the country or small town that has been in business for years and have them do it or do it yourself.
If you have a backyard you can paint your car.
Like said the detail and body work is the hard part. Painting it is just fun.
I read several books and talked to the guys and girl and the paint store until I thought they'd run me off. Took in a box of doughnuts more that once also
I built a tent out of scrap lumber and a large tarp. Bought a cheap oil less compressor and a $100 gun from Sears. Took a week off of work and tore my truck down to nothing.
Stripped paint and did all the body work I could stand. When I thought it was ready I shot the 1st coat of primer and could see every little bit of body work I did too it. lol I went ahead and sprayed it since I had to get back to work.
That was about 9-10 years ago and I still get compliments on it once in a while. It is not a show job by ANY means but I am happy with it.
When I get my 72 Maverick to that point I will try it again with a lot more detail on the body work.
    You can do it

i've heard only good things about the maaco near me and i've seen some of there cars and they look great (y)

That actually did happen at the Macco I used to work for. (Years and years ago.) The prep guy took too long to sand the cars and he was too fussy about making sure the car was sanded right. They fired his ass. That was the only place that I ever saw were you got fired for trying to do a good job. If you can't sand a car, or truck or limo or Mack Truck in an hour, then you can't work for Macco.
