Don't know what's funnier, the "Please check oil daily" sticker, or that there's enough "official" oil-burning/leaking junkers out there on the road to create a market for the stickers to be made! LOL

I often see a similar sticker in our patrol cars here in Oklahoma as well.
I don't know about your 4.6, but I've had two and they've both burned oil. One was in a '95 Thunderbird. I bought it with 34K miles and it burned oil from day one. The second was in a '94 Crown Vic that I bought with 70K - also burned oil. I heard the earlier 4.6 had problems with valve guides and that's why many of them burnt oil. I never pulled any of mine apart to find out. The funny thing is that in my Thunderbird owners manual there was big text that said "SOME OIL CONSUMPTION IS NORMAL". The oil burning wasn't bad, maybe 1-2 qts every 3000 miles or so.

Now...bad oil burning? I had a '95 Saturn that used 1 qt every other gas tank fill. :16suspect

    I've had a few
My '89 Chevy truck burns 1 quart of 20w50 every 150 miles with normal driving. I was pulling a pretty heavy load up to NC a few weeks ago with my redneck trailer, climbed some pretty steep hills and ran it pretty hard and what not, it burned 2 quarts in 100 miles. :rofl2: Sometimes it seems like it burns more oil then gas. :biglaugh: If I get someone riding my ass though, all I have to do is just floor it for a second. They back off fast when that big blue cloud comes out the back!! Thing still runs great though.

I had a 79 Impala that I used on a route job, about 100 miles-a-day. Every morning I added exactly a quart and-a-half of oil (at least it was consistant) It ran great, and the exhaust smoke wasn't excessive,.... but all that oil was going somewhere.

Neither of my Vics burn much, if any oil....although the white '98 has a leaky front seal so it slings some on the engine accessories and the underside of the hood to where I may have to add a 1/2 a-quart every 4-500 miles.

I hear alot of stories about how the earlier 4.6's had a habit of burning some oil, but not so much for later (98-present) engines.

I've heard from a former Ford service manager that with the P-71 Crown Vic cop/cab/fleet cars, Ford engineers would annually pour over repair records from law-enforcement and fleet service, identify common/recurring problems/weaknesses/bugs, and work to fix/strengthen/eliminate the problems, making for progressive improvements in quality/reliability/durability each year.

If that's true,....the '08-'09's should just be about as close to perfect as cars can get....

and in about 5 years, I should be able to afford a used one!
