I've been mulling over the idea of getting an aluminum head for my 250. What are the advantages/risks of doing so? I know it'll be less weight and I'll get all the advantages that come along with it. But will I have to worry about the head not being able to hold up very well or anything? Most of the cars I've had have been economy and therefore had aluminum heads and I didn't have issues with them, but this is a different beast here. I know I'll need to be more gentle tightening things and make sure to buy the right thread stuff when I need to do so. I'm always a worry wart so I figured I'd see if you guys had anything to say. Any thoughts?
I don't see any problems with running one. It will flow more have bigger valves and possibly a better combustion chamber. If it has a removable intake manifold that would be a big plus since you could run a 2 or 4 bl without an adaptor. The only downfall I could see is if it runs hot you might warp a head.
It does use a removable manifold and has plenty of carb options. See, that warping a head thing is the kind of stuff I'm worried about. What would make that happen? It wouldn't do that during normal use right? What kind of temperature range would it have to be in to do that?
Very cool that this is available for guys that want to build up a six .......... but the prices --- oh my!
Exactly. See why I said I've been mulling it over? I really am set on building up a six though. I'm going for as efficient of a daily driver as possible. Aluminum head and radiator are a big part of that.
If that's the case, do what I'm doing since I'm sticking with my six as well. However, it's your decision. 1. Switch to electronic ignition. 2. Decide between a 2V conversion on the head or go for the re engineered Vaporizer 1v carb from Pony Carburators. 3. A nice cam for a mild build. 4. Some headers I'm going for that right now and that should get me some more pop on the engine as well as giving it better gas efficiency. But like I said, it's really up to you. Cheers!
At this point your list is about the same as mine. I'm looking to go for the 2V so far. I'm googling the Pony carb one right now though. The head change is still up in the air really. Ideally I'll get around to it one day. 15 inch rims should help too.
15 inch rims? Always wondered how those would help a car's performance. Never really understood the logic behind it.
electric fan, maybe a bigger aluminium radiator jus to be safe. i wrapped my aluminium head very easy in my cavalier. maybe because its a chevy??
