Took out the back window with intentions of installing my new gasket today, until i found this hiding under bondo. you gotta be kidding me. the pearl paint job is screwed, because i have welding to do. can i get this custom paint scanned and matched? any tips or advice for this repair is appreciated.
Sorry to see that. Too bad. I can tell you that PPG's camera will not read a 3 stage. A good paint store should be able to match it up though. Good luck.
Sorry to hear that the rust monster got you that bad! If it is a true pearl paint, it will not match correctly unless it is done by a VERY skilled painter. Even then it might not match 100%! -Scott H.
i can do the repair no problem, but the only that makes me feel weary is messing up the paint. oh well, its gotta get done.
Yeah, I've called around. Apparently its difficult to scan pearls. i have two quarter panel repairs ahead of me too.
Time for a change of color then. May I suggest bright candy pearl red with copious amounts of glitter flake that shifts from green to deep purple in the sun depending on the angle it is seen from?
You can two tone the car. Paint the roof area a different color. My concern would be how much rust is in the rest of the car....because what you have posted is pretty scary.
If you know a very good painter,he can probably get it very close for you. You see...The pearl is mixed by the painter with a mid coat clear.Depending on how much pearl powder was used in the mix and what air pressure it was painted at, as well as distance from the panel all has alot to do with its appearance. Its tough but can be done reasonably well.I allways write down my mix ratio, air pressure, temp and gun I used as well as distance from panels so I have a good chance of duplication if I have to touch up a car after a bump/briuse.I never promise that it will match perfectly but will be pretty darn close on the 3 occasions I had to do touch ups after K-Mart rash It worked very well... Good luck!!!
i'm with Craig, if they did that to a spot that big, you know they fubared all the little rust spots...
Man, that really sucks. I'd definitely start picking through the rest of the car to be sure nothing else has been half a$$ed.
thats pretty bad. easily epaired though. id check the car over pretty good. and as a painter myself the pearl would be difficult to match but i would go through some paint chips to get close and then tint it to match. id spray the car with a check point in it. so while applying the mid coat which is clear base with the pearl i could test the colors til it was almost a perfect match. its possible. but if you have other repairs id go with an all over paint job and save the trouble.you can always paint it back that color and not have to worry with the matching
