I did that for a while, and had a sticky note telling me at what rpms I am doing 55, 60, 65, and 70.

Now I just keep a GPS in the car.

I have done that before I hooked up my speedo. Actually kept it in there after I got the speedo working to check how close it was.

Not disappointed at all. Sounds similar build to my first Mav. but as far as I know even the ARP bolts are only good to 6500 then the rod becomes an issue and the stock 302 crank wont flow enough oil over 7000 and starves the bottom end. I shifted mine at 6500 and then ran out of nerve. Hey if your brave enough to shift at 8000 go for it. You should do a video for us shifting at 8000.:thumbs2:

Like I said I didnt mean to insult your abilities or knowledge. For all I know you new nothing and had your tach set at 6 cylinder. Lots of guys on here that are just starting out and dont know much.

Dead on. I used the cable I got from you and the tranny gear that I knew came from a 3.00 rear in the 73 I parted out. I always wondered if mine was 2.79 or 3.00, GPS and speedo says 3.00. I'm also thinking it's got a tracloc, it wants to spin both tires.

Mine is WAY off. I have the largest speedo gear I can get. There is one more, but I hear that it wears down within 2500 miles, so I will stick with the GPS.

Currently, I am running about 10 mph off at 60 mph.

I have the white speedo gear I think its a TCI part. Got it off ebay for 9 dollars compared to the 39 they wanted at the speed shop.

My speedo reads 5mph too high but its close enough. The needle runs smooth, I thought it might bounce with the white gear. White gear life span is 25000 or less. GPS shows 60 speedo shows 65.

What heads are on that thing. Thats one pretty looking exhaust port in your pics.

My cars kind of the opposite of yours. Spent 13 months at work in our body shop with a couple of hundred hours invested but the drivetrain I havent spent any real time or money on short of tuning and carb. work. The drivetrain was built by the previous owner. All I know is its a roller motor full of Motorsport parts. Dont have any specs though. Guys at work make fun of me since I'm a tech and dont have a clue whats in my engine. Dont know how many times I've been asked "whats done to the motor" I simply reply "I dont have a clue". :hmmm::)

They are early model 289 heads. closed chamber. they are better than gt40 heads. ill get the number off them. they are ported and shaved. 185 208 valves triple valve springs rod guides and 7/16 studs. thay made a world of difference in the car. they guy had 1000 bucks in them. he never paid the machine shop and they sold them to me for 400. i know the owner real well. he bored my block built my pistons turned my crank and got me bearing set and engine kit for 300. nice to know thr right people
