    In response to this thread, I thought this would be pretty interesting.

    To identify the factory your car was built at, simply look at your VIN. The second character of the VIN will be a letter, and tells the location:

    K = Kansas City
    X = St. Thomas
    W = Wayne
    F = Dearborn

    It is a multiple choice poll, so if you have multiple Mavericks, even if they're just junk parts cars, please click all that apply .Mostly just concerned about the Mavericks, but if you want to add your Comet to the poll, I don't reckon there is much I could do to stop you. :biglaugh: But I'm pretty sure most, if not all Comets were built at Kansas City. Would certainly love to hear about it if you have one that was built elsewhere.

    I have more than it will take, I have two K cars, and one X. Should we count the Comets we've cut up?

    Yea, I was trying to figure out a way to get around that, but I'm not sure. :huh: I've got multiple Kansas City and St. Thomas cars as well.

    DSO will give you a general vicinity of where the car was originally ordered from and likely bought new at. Mercury DSO 22 is Dallas, TX. Ford DSO 22 is Charlotte, NC. Doesn't mean the car was from within the city itself, but the dealership it was sold new at was likely within a couple of hours of there. Like my '74 Grabber has a DSO of 21, which is Atlanta, but it was bought new at a dealership in Macon, GA, which is about 85 miles south east of Atlanta.

    That's intresting. I saved my GT out of a wrecking yard in Dallas.

    OK, gotta gripe. 302-72-mav posted "other, please explain" but didn't explain.

    So, what's up with that "other"?

    I STILL think mine is sorta special with being such an even VIN number 4K91F108000. 8,000th vehicle off the line in 74 year model.

    4-74 model year
    K-Kansas City Assembly Plant
    91-Maverick (non-grabber)
    F-302 V8, 2bbl, 138 HP
    8,000th vehicle off the line.

    Our '72 Comet GT is a very conventional KC built car...no surprises here.
