if you leave it in D why shouldn't it be ok for a daily driver. i used a start shifter for years while driving my maverick as my daily driver. the fumes bothered me more...lol!

I dont know anything about the hammer shifter or if its a ratchet shifter, but I had several of B&M's ratchet shifters and I had problems with every single one of them after 6 months use.

I had a B&M Quick Silver and like was stated above, after a few months it would jam up on me when I would ratchet it through the gears.

I got so good at fixing it I could pull the unbolted down console up, unjam it, and put everything back together during a stop for a red light.

Other people have had good luck with them though.

I keep my Starshifter in D and have only ratcheted it once in the 800 miles I've driven my Comet.

I am using the Street Bandit and have had no problems with it. I drive much of the time in D, but shift through the gears if I am playing around.

I have had it since Feb '04.

Is this the same as a "hammer" shifter?

That seems pretty nice, and lots of decent features. Illuminated shifter selector, etc. Still a ratchet shifter. So driving with it won't be a hassle.

    Hello Elliot:

I have a hammer shifter in a Grabber for 5 years now , and just installed one in a 74 Comet. No complaints... I had to tighten the two bolts that connect the lever to the linkage setup just recently .. but thats been five years.. I recommend them.(y) Chip CAMEO

I run the hurst promatic2 and love it. Its very well built and the ratchet mach. is simple and strong. Shift manually all the time and it hasnt acted up once. This is my second Mav its been in. Saved it from my first Mav. Bought this shifter in the early nineties.

I have a B&M Quick Silver shifter in my '74. Installed in 1990. Still works great. No problems at all.

I had the mega shifter, the star shifter and a few other ratchet style shifters and had problems with them all at one point or another and it never seems to be a good time for it when it happens, I came down the return road at the track holding one out the window after it "Hung up" once showing my buddies what went wrong on that pass ,as they all looked confused as to what went wrong on that pass, I ripped it out of the floor I was so mad and smashed it with a big hammer once back at the trailer , and said I would not have another one in anything I owned after that, and I haven't, I got a b&m pro stick and never had another problem , I have also ran the hurst quarter stick and would use both again with out hesitation... but every one has their preferance and what works for them...

i seen megashifters get jamed which is a kick down type shifter. plus i never liked the one two kick down to get to first gear. not good for on the roll runs with you want to dump it into first gear ;)

i run star shifters in both my cars and never had a problem been in the for now what... 17 - 20 years now. 99% of the time most issues people have with these are not the shifter, but the way they route the shifter cable. people also have issue with the cable melting becuase they route it too close to the exaust.
