I am not a good typer. 72 Mav I just put a used 2300 on my Maverick. It came with an electric choke. I know I could covert it to a manual choke, but I was curious of what it would take to hook up the electrical choke?
it should have 2 terminals, ground and power. Ground is the negative terminal, just find something that's got a good connection. The other one will be the power which is the negative terminal. should go to an ignition key activated source, you could use your AC unit's power source like I did. just don't use the coil or the alternator power source.
The choke is powered from the center tap of the alternator, so that current is constantly applied to the temperature sensing disc. The system is grounded through the carburetor body.
Thanks guys, I did figure the two leads were for Negative and Power and I do like the ideas of the airconditior or alt for the power, but I am not sure what activates the choke. The original choke had a tube that went from the exhaust to the carb. I am assuming the heat caused the choke to activate. My choke has this fitting also but I realized after removing the tube it was rusted in two before the exhaust (I am assuming it was connected to the exhaust). I read on Holley's site where a vacuum line was used on the 4BBL holley kit. I don't think that my choke has a vacuum port so I am assuming I use the same type of connection to the exhaust and also provide electrical power. I know running a manual choke would probably be easier but I am stuck on making this work, unless it doesn't work real well and then I go to a manual choke.
You dont need the heat stove/tube for the electric choke.Just wire it off the alternator and it will be good to go...
