I recently bought my maverick and the roof was shot so i finish scraping it off and it left all the glue on... I was wondering if there was a faster way to remove it then sanding it all down?
Im talking about just all the glue on the roof that doesn't want to come off. I dont know if a bottle of "Goo Gone" might work?
they make a glue and tape remover that can be picked up at your local automotive paint store. use it and a razorblade. its what we use in the body shop. or paint thinner or prep sol
Ok i will have to try one of those and see which works best. I was using a flat screw driver to kind of scrape away the glue but just did a little cause i didn't want to damage the body.
Talking about 30+ year old glue, I doubt there are many chemicals that would soften it up any at all. And if they are, just how toxic would they be? You can get one of the petrified sponge looking wheels that do a good job. I used one on my Grabber hood to finish taking it to the bare metal. While they are coarse, they dont dig in like coarse sandpaper does.....
I've removed vinyl top residue with a wire brush cup mounted on a 4 1/2" angle grinder. Works very well and will not hurt any solid metal. If there are rust pin holes, they will show up fast when the wire eats into them.
