This is what I have so far: I know I want a T5. Yeap, took a lot of planning to get to this stage. I have overcome all other obstacles and kept my eye on the prize. So, with the hardest part behind me I have to now start collecting parts for the conversion.

We decided to go with a CNC kit with the pedal assembly and the master cylinder attached http://www.cncbrakes.com/
I am not sure whether I should get a junkyard T5 or at least a running used T5 for a couple hundred and drive it until I need to rebuild it or whether I should save up for a $1000-1500 one that'll last me a long time.

I am also gonna need the flywheel and clutch which we already figured out.

That should be most of it, I don't have an exact idea of how much the CNC kit will cost, Bryant knows the owner well so he might get me a hookup but we haven't figure out the price. And his buddy who does transmission work I guess might have a tranny he could sell me for a little over $1000. We'll see how things work out.

for your plans a T5 will be a weak link.

    i would look a 3550 tremec or a TKO 500-600

You know I was actually researching that. Looks like a good T5 could handle somewhere under 500, I doubt I'll be very far past 400.

Here is a good summary of the ford overdrives. I am not planning on doing too much racing with the mav so I'm hoping I'll be ok but I certainly don't want to spend a lot of money to learn later the T5 isn't gonna hold up.

Bryant and I are thinking to go to the junk yard and pull something out of a car there and see what happens. Any sepecific year or model car you guys recommend to pull it out of?

if it ends up being scrap we'll just rebuild it.

You'll also be needing a pilot bushing for the rear of the crank :burnout:

Major score today . . . Bryant's shop partner Steve knows Chuck Neal personally (the dude who makes CNC) and so we decided to swing by. I was able to get me the clutch assembly along with the master cylinder and the slave cylinder. Next time I go back I'm getting the reservoir. And I got to meat Chuck, very nice guy. Would be a pleasure to do business with him again.

That's the same exact slave cylinder that I bought for my Maverick. In the past, I've used them in stock cars and they worked great with a steel braided line. :bananaman

chuck strongly recomended using hard steel line. he said that sence it doesnt flex and has a larger id the the teflon steelbraid it will be able to power shift and have a real good feel that way. also hard steel line is alot cheaper than steel braid. its just harder to work with. we test fited the pedal assembly in the car and it looks like its going to just fit in the dash right next to the assembly that holds the brake pedal and stearing colum.

I'm gonna hit up a junkyard on monday and see if I can pull a tranny. I figure it'll be under $200. We looked online and craigslist listed them for $600 with questionable reliability. I gotta get my hands on a pair of brackets to mount the slave cylinder (one for me and bryant needs one too).

We also need to build the T5 crossmember. One of the members on the board is working on making them but I don't think that's gonna happen in time.

Other than that we just need a shifter.
