Not that this is a big deal, but what hold down was used in 1972 Grabbers? Was it the angle plastic type or the straight across plastic one? Just wondering for a stock under the hood look.

My 72 has the angle one.

Take a look at your battery tray - see if your slots for the hold down -"J bolts" are angled.

Thanks gents! Nice under the hood pic btw!!! (y) Hey Craig, just out of view where the battery is located there is a black or chrome looking ring "thingy" that looks like it holds a wire in place or something--what is that?? It was connected to the wall of the engine bay and the one of the battery hold downs. Did it just hold the J bracket and plastic hold down in place/stablize the battery in the tray??? Thanks for any input on that too.

Yes....it holds the battery in place over one of the j-hooks.

    Thanks great pic!

Hey thanks for the pic, and I cleaned the one I had up and painted it black too! Looks great. I can't find thick more block like J hooks anywhere though, everything out there are those cheap thin lookin things. I guess, who is going to see em. Again many thanks for taking the time to take and post the pic!:thumbs2:

I hated that battery mount and switched it to a plastic battery tray with the bolt at the bottom. Less to fuss with.

    Just an option.

My tray is missing all together. How did they mount to the car? Welded ? How did you mount the plastic one?

The steel tray bolts to the apron like so. The two cad plated bolts go through the apron and thread into a stiffener/mount plate Under the apron. The bottom bolt on the bracket goes through the apron from the wheel well area and threads through a "U" nut slipped onto the bracket. There is also a bolt that goes through the core support and attaches to the front of the tray lower bracket with another "u" nut. you can just barely see the white bolt head in the photo on the left...

I pulled a plastic one from a 80s or 90s ford car that cleaned up nice. (Taurus?) Pretty sure mount holes lined up and I used the mounting from the plastic tray. Now the battery has one bolt at the bottom and less parts to deal with.

(EBay probably has 20 listed right now - lol)
