I need headers for my new 347 and I'm getting mixed opinions. Some say "1-5/8" for higher velocity and torque at the bottom end" and other guys say "that will cause too much loss at the top end. Use 1-3/4". :dizzy: If I go with 1-3/4", Crites is the only one, right?

I'll be using a 3500 stall. Heads are Canfield with, 2.02/160 valves and 5.90/5.90 lift. Probably run it up to 6500 rpm.

1 3/4 would be better, and Crites has them, as well as Hooker (with some significant mods). Do a search for those.

However, 1 5/8 Hooker 6901 fit great and are way less hassle, so I would just go with those. I went low 10's with the 1 5/8" Hookers. If its a race car, you will be taking them off every now and then and the benefit of the 1 3/4 is not worth it in my opinion.

Is the car going to be used for both street and strip or just strip.
If your answer is s/s then I would say stick with the 1-5/8". You didn't say what your static compression was or what gears you are running, but with mine which is a 408" stroker with 15:1 static compression and 704 lift cam I have 1-3/4 Dawson's. The car has 4:89 gears and a Powerglide with 4800stall and is definately a top end car, pulling hard through the traps at around 7600 without the trottle stop. The car has run 9.90's but with the throttle stop runs 10.5's.

    IMHO

Thanks, Erick and John. It's mostly strip with an occasional show & shine. I'm running 11:1 compression, 4.56 gears.

Easy fit and less hassle is a pretty compelling reason to go with the 1 5/8 Hookers (appeals to my lazy side). I just didn't want to choke it up too much. I'll be in the 11's somewhere and hopefully consistent.

    Thanks for your help, guys.
