We discussed it when we were doing the body but I figured I'd get t-boned at night time so we left them alone.

Not to be a douche :D .... but

It would be noticed by a Police Officer, it's what their trained to do. Also if you have had five murders down the road a traffic Officer isn't going to respond to a murder unless told otherwise by a supervisor ..... he's a traffic cop, that is what Detectives and Investigators are for. :D

I don't know about other States and Im sure it is some what the same from State to State but in Oklahoma if it is OE then it must stay that way. Personally I let things slide, Im not a jerk but I would say with side marker lights it is a good idea to have them especially at night. It would pose a danger to other drivers and yourself on the road way.

Once again not trying to make anyone mad just MO..... and State law :)

My comments were not targeted at law enforcement in general, just my own municipality.

99% of the people on this site are in a whole lotta trouble then. :biglaugh: :rofl2:

No cop around here would ever pay attention to or care about side marker lights missing. They've got doughnuts to go eat, and stuff. :rofl2: Long as it's got head lights, tail lights, tag light, brake lights and turn signals, the vast majority of cops aren't going to bother you. The side markers on my '75 Fiat Spider have never worked since I've had the car, and it only has rear turn signals, and I've never been pulled over in that car because of lights.. Millions of cars were made without side marker lights.

We can go on day and days about this how some are for it and some are against it...it doesnt really matter either way, if you want them then leave them on, if you dont then block them off...if you get caught its your butt, not ours. :biglaugh:

Side markers werent required by federal law until Jan 1st, 1970...any vehicle dated prior to that doesnt require side markers, therefore theyll never be pulled over for it as they were built prior to the law being passed.

I don't know why I'm even trying to make this point because I have no intentions of removing mine...but my point is...do they REALLY train you guys to know what each car, year by year, came with from the factory since there are thousands of cars out there that never came with them? Seems like an awful lot of training being wasted on a side marker light when there are some pretty serious crimes going on pretty much every second of every day. And obviously you look at the side marker lights on all cars but in your honest opinion, do you really believe that all officers do? I'm not trying to be a smart***, just really would like to know your honest opinion. My opinion...I think a lot of (car guy) officers would possibly notice but very few (knows little about cars) officers would ever think twice about it, much less notice it.
Oh well, it's no big deal. Have a good weekend. :Handshake

as I said in my previous post, every single car driven in the United States manufactured after January 1st, 1970 is required by federal law to have 2 sets of side marker lights, one in the front and one in the back, and any car built before January 1st, 1970 thats driven in the United States does NOT require the use of side markers...seems like a pretty simple rule of thumb to me...lol

damn. never expected this to reach 5 pages. I'd say by now I'm less concerned about an officer noticing and more concerned about liability in an accident. I REALLY wanna weld'm smooth tho :( lol

If you get into an accident and theres a possibility that the accident could have been avoided by having those marker lights, then it will be your fault, doesnt matter if it was his fault or not, since youre the one thats breaking the more serious law and the accident was a result of your modification (Federal > State)

Note to all, if your in the market for a project car and want to delete the side markers, buy a '69.5. :rofl2: I'll sell the VIN and title from mine to anyone interested. Oh wait, that's another can of worms. :biglaugh:

Jeff, do you have a link to that federal law? With my October 1969 build date, I might just give this side marker elimatation a second thought but I would have to carry a copy of this law with me at all times.
