I have bought a 73 maverick that is in need of floor repair. What I was wanting to know from the experts what floor pans would be the closest to use or do I make them from scratch. As I would guess no one makes maverick pans. Thanks Tod
I made mine. cardboard template. Some mustang floor pans can be persuaded to fit but I don't know what year. Someone will tell you
I used 71 mustang floor boards.. from www.mustangsunlimited.com ( i paid a total of $90 for both sides (long sides).they are not an exact fit.. but they fit perfectly using a hammer, welder and a grinder..
Autokrafters has them listed in their catalog on page 24. $600 in the blink of an eye for the toe boards, fronts and rears!!!!
Really? So they put them in the catalog and never followed through on them? That's a good way to tick off the potential customers.
Auto krafters never made the floor pans.. The deal fell thru... Use mustang pans, or make your own...
CJs Pony Parts sells floorpans in a lot of different configurations ... http://www.cjponyparts.com/floor-pans-components/c/10020100/start/8/ It looks like 65-73 pans are close enough that a lot of applications listed there are universal. Most of what I had heard here is that Mustang pans are too wide ... probably best to mod them close to the tunnel for fit, and leave a flange to weld through. Butt-welding floor pans is a PIA.... especially the "laying on your back, welding up" part. Keep in mind our seat risers are very different than Mustang. I patched mine, and in retrospect, they were just rough enough, I think if I would have gotten a passenger side front pan ($38 ?), it would have saved a bunch of time over what I ended up doing ... I learned a lot through this.
They tried to follow throught with them. Catalog was going to print, and it looked like the floor pans were going to happen, so they added them to the catalog. Catalog got printed, and the floorplans never materialized. Hindsight is always 20/20. My informed position (slightly better than an "opinion") is they will never happen. Too many have to be made and they won't sell in the volume needed to re-coup the investment.
Even if they did end up getting them - the prices listed were high in comparison to others (I understand why - because they are low volume). It's sort of a lose/lose because the higher they are, the less they sell - and the less they sell, the higher they have to prices them. Just my guess, but, with the exception of a few of us, I would bet the majority of Maverick guys would use Mustang floor pans or fabricate their own over paying more for correct reproduction floor pans. For me, it would depend on what I was building as to whether I would use Mustang or Maverick reproduction pans (if they were made). Tod, When you get ready to do this, let me know. I'm only 1/2 mile away.
