im contemplating on keeping the comet a mild street car or bolt on a few goodies, the car if you dont know is a white 71 comet gt with red interior just like the advertisement with all the badging. at the moment its being restored on a rotissere, now i have all the original parts for the car but i want to pep it up a bit, the car inside will remain all original, and outside, i already have a mild built 302, everything on it is built but the bottom end it will have a 750carb, i have a b&m quick silver,, fresh c4 trans with a shift kit, fresh 3500stall, and i want to do a posi rear with 4 11 gears, im wanting to put either a 30 - 70, or a adjustable suspension on it and ladder bars. it will have all poly urethane bushings, manual steering rack conversion, and its got mag 500 rims with the widest tires i can fit with it barely rubbing. i am also contemplating on putting the battery in the trunk. now with those mods what can i run in the 1/4? i also bought a 76 maverick with a bunch of goodies that im just taking the front disc brakes off of, and im putting disc brakes on the rear. now where im at is the beginning stages of putting it back together, everything new. and i do want to take the car on trips so is there a way to just swap gears, and will after all those things i just mentioned will that increase or decrease the value? i do intend on attending car shows. wow so many questions not enough time haha.

Do all that stuff and add buckets and a cool spoiler. And Cragars and sidepipes. ALUMINUM RADIATOR and an electric cooling fan.
my car has high buckets, and the 76 maverick has the rest haha i care about the 71 and not so much the 76 im going to build that one and drag it.
well i haven't really seen actually i've never seen a comet gt in my life and everytime i go to a show i see bel airs, mustangs, camaros etc. never a comet gt. so i do want to do it right but i just dont want to kill the value, and im curious on what all it takes to hit 11s in the 1/4 n/a? because i love old cars and i really love winning street light challenges:bananaman
I'd think you'd need to do a stroker motor to hit the 11's. Or you would need to lighten it up a lot. This is from what you say is a mildly built motor. I run a 308 in my Grabber. My best is 11.81, but it weighs 2600 pounds, and has aluminum heads, 750 Holley, MSD electronics, Hooker headers, solid lifters etc.
Also you can swap gears by haveing another center section with a set of street gears in it. You can change them out in a couple of hours.
I swear you must have worked for Hot Wheels in a former life. As far as the original post goes I think you answered your own question as you typed. I do that a lot.
I would have to wonder if you do those mods will it actually increase the value? You have to face it, in stock trim the only thing exciting about these cars would be the looks. Add some giddy-up and you just might get more interested parties. Rather than a second set of gears throw a Gear Vendors overdrive in it. If you can't set up your own gears you would almost be half way to the price of it after having a chunk built. Not to mention it turns the C4 into a 6 speed!!!
No matter what you do....don't have the tires "barely rub". Do whatever it takes so there is NO rub......NONE.
