Been meaning to start a project thread since I started the car project--- time just got away from me, so Im starting one now. I bought my 1970 Grabber Orange Maverick last summer. The owner had died and a new maverick owner (thats me) was just getting started in my search for my next cool car. It was just what I was looking for. Work started on the weekend after the last car show of the summer. It was in "ok shape"- but I could tell there was a Mity Mav hiding deep inside.

Work begins on project Mity Mav

First- the tear down- removing everything that I could get a wrench on. Most of the bolts were so loose I didnt even need a wrench. I was suprised it didnt sway as I drove down the road in it. There was more hidden dirt and unmentionable things from 40 years hiding in all the nooks and crannies. The funny one was I found an old bank bag and a bullet.... could this[IMG] car have been in a bank heist? <laughing> [IMG] Unfortunately no money was in the bag to help with my project, so the work continued.
I removed the motor, tranny, and all engine bay parts - got it down to a basic shell and made my plans for the next step- I would be putting in a Mustang II front end, removing the leaf springs, and turning this car into something fantastic.

Removing the shock towers and putting in the Mustang II front end. I want to put a 347 into this baby, so the shock towers had to come out. Had special panels made to cover the sides where the shock towers used to be.

ArT Morrison 4 link - Rear- Look no leaf springs

This was tricky. Had to put a few holes in the floor to install this one. Its an amazing rear end tho-- No more leaf springs! [IMG] 100_2435_original.jpg [IMG]

A 347 would fit in without removing the shock towers

    Time for paint--

I figured if I was going to be a bear, I was going to be a grizzly bear-- so when picking the new paint color for Mity Mav-- I wanted it to be like no other-- This is a one off paint and I love it. I know its not your "typical" maverick color-- and thats exactly the way I wanted it. The hood is getting a scoop and a strip of satin black will run into the scoop and across the back trunk. This is where my project is today..
came out of paint on Friday. This week the powder coated rear end pieces will be going back under it. Im loving this project!

You are right-- it would fit, but it wouldnt look as clean as it will now with those being gone. I want the engine which has tons of chrome to be my focal point--

It was all original but the previous own had tried to do some touch up on the paint and it didnt match exactly-- I got lucky with a good starter car- projects are lots easier if everything is there to start with.

thanks! I hope so. I know there are some who dont like when you change a good thing ( I totally understand that way of thinking also) but Im really trying to do something unique and get people looking at mavericks again. I think they get overlooked a lot. I hope people will think its cool when Im done with it.
