Okie doke. To my knowledge, there have never been any convertible Mav/Com's.........However, I've been chatting with the kind people over at West Coast Customs, and they said that it would be possible to convert a Mav/Com into a convertible, but that it would probably cost quite a lot. Soooo, my question to you folks is that if money were not an object, how many of you would own a convertible Mav/Com?

Only if the quality of the conversion made it look factory ...

There have been a couple "made" by people here and around. The best looking one was one that was combined with a 60s Mustang convertible top. The trunk lid on the Mavs/Comets goes up too much to meet the rear window for it to look good in convertable form. You would have to make the trunk lid flatter to look better. Some people will post pics and you'll see what I mean. So, I guess my answer is yes, I wouldn't mind if it looked good.

Well, that's purty cool looking (y) , but now that I've actually seen a convertible, I don't think that I would go for it myself. It just, doesn't seem to work for me. Anyways, I thought it would be a cool idea

Before you decide, look at these pics. Much better in my opinion. Check out the flatter trunk like I was talking about.

Here's some pics of the Maverick/Mustang convertible.

Yea, the deck lid needs to be flatten to make it look right. I just cut one up to get an idea.

Bet it was a lot of work to get that roll up quarter window right.

Actually the one Corbin pictured was an early Mustang that was reskinned in Maverick sheet metal. I measured a 65/66 and it was smaller than the maverick in the width and door area. That is probably a 67-68. They are bigger than the early ones.

Hmph... I didn't know that car was really a Muscrat in Maverick skin. I wonder which would be harder, to re-skin a whole car or design a convertible top mechanism... Sounds like a lot of work in either case.

Out of curiosity...I would be interested to know how much "quite a lot" is...something like $5k...$10k...$20k?
Not that I have enough cash laying around anyway...but I have long dreamed of having a functional Mav convertible, and somehow putting a price tag on it might give me something to shoot for...:D (as I fumble around looking for my latest Mega Millions ticket...)

Here is the yellow one you are talking about, Matt:

Kinda hard to tell if there is a functional top there or not...but maybe a good example of what my car would look like as a convertible :D

Wow. That yellow one looks pretty nice. And I agree that the others would probably look better with a flatter trunk.
Oh, and "quite a lot" came out to be around $11k, I think. I called em' a few weeks ago.
