I have a real nice grill for a 71 but the guy who had it painted it PURPLE!!
Whats the best way to get the paint off without hurting the grill?

If u want to repaint the grill. I wud just clean it, go over w\ fine steelwool and repaint it whatever color I desired. I wud hesitate to use any harsh chemicals to strip it. Maybe some of the water based new strippers may not harm it -- but that might be risky IMO.
    GUD LUCK WITH IT...

Well! I don't know what else to say on that. I guess ur options are limited. You may not have much else of an option but stripper. Maybe some of the folks here can offer some other suggestions.

I have used original Easy Off Oven cleaner to remove paint on plastics in the past and it worked great. Sprayed it on and left it a while then hosed it off and all the paint just washed off.

Go to an auto paint dealer and get a product like this:

Aircraft stripper for plastics - This is what I have used very successfully. SEM also makes a paint remover for plastics but I have not personally tried it. I know we are talking about a grille, but for small parts, soaking in DOT 3 brake fluid overnight works wonders.

I've used Easy off on plastic with great results. I was unaware there was an aircraft stripper for plastic. If its half as good as the regular stuff, I'd use that. A bit pricey, but quick.
