I'm looking for info on a radio for my 1973 Comet. I would like an AM/FM. Was this an option that year? If so what would it look like?

I'm pretty sure my car didn't come with a radio from the factory or with an AM. When I bought it came with an aftermarket AM radio, it doesn't work. The antenna is an aftermarket POS also, so I would really like to get the whole package of Ford parts.

If an AM/FM wasn't available I guess I will go with an AM since I'm looking to keep things pretty original since tha car has only 8400 miles on it.

    Thanks,

    Jon

AM/FM was available, but is kinda rare. Only 1991 Mavericks came with them in 1973.
This is mine without the knobs:

Also, you'd have to find a set of kick panels with the speaker cut outs, they pop up from time to time on Ebay.

    Thanks Dave,

So the speakers were in the kick panels (I need blue ones in case anybody has any) and not in the dash? My car has the speaker in the dash which I'm pretty sure is aftermarket.

Most Mavericks & Comets came with the AM radio, and one speaker in the dash...
    These are the kick panels:

And I'll see if I have a picture of the package tray.

I remember those now. We had about 7 or 8 Mavericks when I was growing up. We didn't keep to many parts for them. We concentrated on the BOSS 302's and CJ Mustangs. If memory serves the package tray had either the speaker grills that looked like an add on or the one that had the holes already drilled in the panel. Which would be correct for my car? I'm sure all this is super easy to find tooooo!

Got it. I remember now. I also have the blower thingy that I'm debating on intstalling. Thing is this car will never be driven in the cold weather so I will probably never use it.

Let me ask you this. I haven't gotten the Marti report yet but my car is red with a blue interior. I get a lot of crap on this. I'm assuming that this was in fact an viable color combination. Yes as far you kow? I don't have a brochure yet either......

My 1976 Comet came with one of those bulky A.M. push button radios. I still have it, i keep it as a memento from the past.

Don't know about 73 but an am/fm was available in 74. Got this on off Ebay. It's only mono but works just fine. Should probably fit any year Maverick. As well as many other ford products.

Will drive a front and rear speaker and has a built in fader so no external fader control needed.

Keep in mind: finding a correct factory AM/FM will set you back about $100. They are getting tougher to find.

As far as red with a blue interior....I doubt you could get a car that way. Have to see what the Marti report says.

The Red with Blue thing is wierd but I pulled up the carpet and it is a factory red car. The interior looks factory stock. I thought the same thing also but who would buy a car and change the interior color? I'll have to get the Marti report and see what it says.
