Glad your back Shadowmaster. What year Mustang are you running? Scott, Do you have everything you need to MOUNT the bottle? I have a friend that is parting out a car thet is/was running gas if you need parts. He would probably give them too me. Not the bottles and nozzles of course.
Yeah, the kit came with EVERYTHING you need to run the nitrous and mount the bottle, but all I am lacking is the plumbing from the regulator to the carb and nitrous plate. So I need to pull my plate off and the current dual feed and take it in where they sell AN fittings and buy all the right fittings and a few feet of braided hose. I just live too far away from any parts houses, so that is what is holding me back. It is at least an hour each way to the parts, probably 90 minutes, so I am looking a most of a day just to gather parts. Soon, though, soon...
scooper77515; If you get the combo right you should pickup about 2 maybe 3 tenths. If you spray right out of the gate you won't pickup that much. This, like all mods will be something you have to play with to find how it will work best with your setup. Check with the track that your going to run at for what you CAN and CAN'T do as far as placement of the tank. I've seen racers who thought they were completely setup and ready to go only to have one of those good old track boys look at the car and say "NO WAY". You can put all the air, fuel and NOS in to your motor your want but if you still can't get is out, where is it going to go? We racers often forget about getting out all the gases after we put them in. Here is a fact. SBF heads don't flow. Even aftermarket only do OK but unless you have them professionally ported they are only OK. Big block have bigger exhaust ports but even then they still need help to get the flow right. Don't get to upset you don't reach your goal with just this mod, keep asking for what other have done to get where you want to be. Good luck! As always just my .02 Bossmav
When I had the bottle in my car I mounted it in the trunk. I never had a blow out tube. Tech told me that either it needs to be vented out of the trunk or I need to seal the trunk off from the passenger compartment. Just so you know. And by the way i guess I also run a POSER DRAG CAR cause I only run 11.60 and don't need the cage by "law". But do you really want to go that fast without it???? If something ever happened I hope to be able to build another car and be able to race again. That's my .02!!! Can't put a price on your life. Remember that. Keep it fun!
Kinda off topic but I am the V.P. of the Vegreville Drag Race Association which a friend and I along with a group of guys and one girl, got going last year. We tech ever car and the proper safety equipment is required or you just don't run. Our website is www.VDRA.org. Sorry to get off topic.
That is not off topic. It warns me (and others) that if we don't pass tech, we likely wont race. I was going to put the down-tube vent in anyways, since my trunk isn't REALLY separate from the "cockpit".
Hi Boss Mav I am only a couple of hours from you i live in palm harbor but i am working in dc and have my car with me maybe we could get together at one of the local tracks. O ya by the way i will bet you 50 bucks to any charity that scooper wants to donate too that he knocks off at least 6/10ths from his 1/4 mile et with that 150 shot especially if he hits it out of the gate. let me know. hope to see you around. 393Mark
Getting together to do some racing sounds great! I go to Hagerstown mainly, my car is setup for the 1/4 mile but I do race 1/8 from time to time, but it's not my norm. Now as far as makiing a bet, I can't do that, I don't gamble with my money even if it is for a good cause and I only race for the fun of it. I would love to see scooper77515 pick up a full second but with a 150 shot 6/10's I feel would be hard to do. Old school rule of thumb is for every 100lbs or every 75-100 ponys you would get about a 10th but the faster you go the harder that becomes. Scooper has a nice setup but those GT40's are holding him back (sorry Scooper) No flow... no go! Now for spraying out of the gate, that might cause him to blow the tires right off the bat and cause his sixty to go the other way, that's why I didn't think he should do that. I would do the second gear thing and if it was 2 stage, second then third gear, but I guess I'm thinking of my car and not knowing what he crosses the traps at. I don't spray. But I've been around a lot of guys that do and I've seen what it can do and it is very cheap and quick HP. Let me know if you want to go racing Spring is right around the corner. Terry
Those GT40s flow pretty good for the $300 I have invested in them. They are NOT AFR205s, but also don't cost anything near AFR prices.
Scooper, I think if you hook you'll be in the low 12's. The faster you go the less streetable it'll be. Gears, convertor, etc. My NHRA rulebook says 10.00 (*6.40) to 13.99 (*8.59) All ET supercharged, turbocharged, or Nitrous equipped cars without a full OEM or .024-inch steel firewall: Jacket meeting SFI spec 3.2A/5 and gloves meeting SFI spec 3.3/1 mandatory. * 1/8 mile times
My guess, if he hooks well and has a 1.50 60 foot with a 150 shot he will do a 11.90 1/4 mile time. Just my two cents
Hi Bossmav thats great my car also is set up for the 1/4 The reason I said out of the gate is that nitrous produces big low end torque and Scooper has et streets they will hold that power no problem at a well preped track. Also a 150 shot takes 8/10ths off my 1/4 mile time so I am going to stick with at least 6 /10ths off his. I respect you for not gambling for money this should be for fun your wright. So we will keep in touch with Scooper and maybe we can bet for [ I told you so rights] that will keep it fun. Hope to see you around some time keep in touch Mark
Scooper, what is currently your best time without the NOS. Maybe I missed that somewhere but please let me know. Thanks.
I have never run on this engine. Last time I ran was on stock block, 8:1 compression, much milder cam, flat tappets, street tires that were slipping.. That was 2.1829 60', 9.3962 ET, and 75.63 mph in the 1/8 mile. But that engine is NO comparison to the one I am running now. Even without the NOS.
I have to agree with Jimmy2gates, if you hook best et should be low 12's maybe high 11's if everythings just right. Look at KillerComets setup, it took him a long time to get to where he is now, and his is a true street car and a Honda Killer!! Make sure your caltrac's are in the lower hole and whatever you do don't listen to anything John Calvert says. Man makes a great traction bar but has no idea how to make a Maverick\Comet hook. As always just my .02 but I'm right on the lower hole. Bossmav
