Chris, I'm not sure of the exact gauge of the sheetmetal. I just cut a section out of an old fender we had removed from a car. We throw away sheetmetal every day in the body shop. You can probably stop by any bodyshop and get some freebie parts that are getting ready to go to the dumpster. It doesn't have to be real heavy. The sheetmetal they use on new cars isway better than the old stuff as far as corrosion resistant. I used body hammers and dollies to shape the metal. I had to put a couple of splits in the side to get it to roll up better but the panel bond takes care of that too. I probably spent a couple of hours making and fitting before I was happy with it. With your ability, I know you can do it too.
I had forgot all about my yellow c4. And you thought you were the only one that painted them yellow. Actually, I bought the engine and tranny from a friend of mine and it was already painted. I don't have a clue if he did it or if it might be one of yours. I know it was a pretty badass tranny. Katrina flooded it and I changed it to a toploader. I still have it and will likely use it again in the future. Oh, I didn't leave it yellow either.
Well, If I can be of help with the recondition let me know. It would be funny if it was one of mine - it has been a long time since I put together one of the large bell C4s. I have one in my garage that I am considering building for 750 - 800 HP but I have to put a lot of money into it to do that and I don't want it just sitting around after I build it. I saw that you had painted it blue - it looked pretty good.
More work done on the rusty cowl this weekend. I made some patch panels and glued/screwed them in place. It was more work than I expected. Im still going to have to cut out the louvers from the top and rust bullet/glass the inside. So basically, all I did this weekend was build a frame to support the glass. After removing as much bad metal as I could I was left with very little to no edge along the firewall and in the corners. I even have some holes along the firewall-cowl seam that I had to patch up with metal putty. I've about decided that this shell has had it and I will begin searching for a new Mav in the coming year. It would be cool to start with a fresh body on a rotisserie. I'll get some pics posted soon. Its not pretty though.
Hey gang. Im looking for some parts to put together my firewall and dash. I need to know where to get the following: -plastic/rubber sleeves that mount over the windshield wiper shafts -wiper arm to cowl seal/gasket -gasket/seal for the steering column plate on the firewall Anyone have ideas? Will I be making this stuff myself? If so, what kind of material will I need? Thanks
I would assume Mustang seals/gaskets would be the same. You would think that the wiper shafts and all would be a standard size ford part. But who knows. I would like to know this myself, so I hope somone will chime in that knows for sure.
Not much done this weekend due to weather. It seems that mother nature thought she'd let us know its still winter on the last day of winter by dropping the temps 40* and dumping several more inches of snow on us. Rust Bullet has an operating temp range of 60-80 or something like that so the plan to glass the inner cowl was out. I did get out some parts and play around with them a little. I got a good look at my VA unit. It should fit the firewall pretty nicely. These came in this weekend. My new pedal covers from http://www.modoinnovations.com/ . These are pretty nice pieces and look really good installed. Here is some work completed from the previous weekend. I got one coat of Rust Bullet down but thats it. This weekend I should get the fiberglass put in. Winter IS officially over now.
That's a mod I want to do as well, fill in the cowl vents. I'll think about it more once the rear quarters are finished.
Update. I have the cowl fixed and patched. No more leaks hopefully I have the fatmat on the firewall and cowl I have reinstalled the wiper assembly and dash supports Drilled holes for AC and heater hose bulkheads Installed the Vintage Air Gen IV EVAP unit Rewired and relocated the fuse box using this tech article as a guide: http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=64243&highlight=fuse+relocation Installed the power steering pump built brackets for condenser and installed Next up... I have a list of AC fittings and hoses to buy fo rthe custom hose routing. Hopefully I can get that done this week and have the AC finished off by the weekend. Then comes the task of removing the old steering box. With a little luck, I can do it without having to lift the motor or remove the shorty header. My helper...
