i have a radiator made for the 289 in any 1965+ mustang, my question is will this work with a 351w without any overheating problems or should i keep looking. any help would be great. thanks
I would opt for a Champion made for the Maverick you are going to put it in. I don't think the Mustang radiator will fit. If it is a two row radiator it will not be enough cooling anyway - if it is a three row core it might be enough cooling but the problematic fit might be a factor. The Champions sell for under $200.
Toots, tires, TV`s, and radiators > never too big! If you have them right now, go ahead an try it. If you gotta buy one, like Paul said!

In New York it might... No harm in trying it. I doubt it would do very well around here though, unless it's a really conservative build.
A lot of whether it will fit depends on the year of the application and the radiator. The pre-70 radiators had inlet and outlets different from the later years. Before '70, the outlet for the radiator comes out on the passenger side. After '69, the outlet from the water pump comes out the driver's side. Therefore, the outlet for the radiator comes out on the driver's side. It also depends on whether the car has a/c or not. A 2 core radiator would be fine on a regular 302 or 351. I have 2 core 24" raditors on my '69 Cougars with 351W's. They run fine. Usually, non a/c radiators are 20 inches and a/c ones are 24. They all came with 2 core ones from the factory, even the a/c ones. That said, 3 core ones would be better, especially if the engine has been altered. Jim
On the contrary... I over killed the cooling system in my Falcon. I need cardboard in front of the radiator when it dips down in the 50's to keep it at its operational temperature. Without the cardboard the temp gauge jumps up and down like a yo-yo every time the thermostat opens and closes.

Electric fans can help modulate temperature as well. A modified 351 would need a fairly large radiator but cooling system design is going to be a key factor with your particular application. I noticed more temp fluctuation once the engine warmed up with the eng driven fan than with tbe electric fan I use now.
