Well i was aformed that ONCE my passenger side shock went though the trunk and someone KINDA fixed it.......... well not good enough.. any ideas on how to fix this???? chaz...
need to take pics of the damage and post them. i would recomend renforceing with aditional metal and some welding.
I would also like to see a picture to make sure what I have said is useful for your situtation. I kind of did the same thing on my Mustang Cobra. I installed a Steeda Panhard bar and the brace went to the underneath of the spare tire well. I did some hard racing during the Silver States Classic and pushed the mount through the floor. I took sheet metal about 2 times larger than the brace and tacked one underneath and one on top, set the car on the ground and attached the panhard bar brace once again, then proceeded to weld both patches a little at a time both top and bottom. Next time I just bent the bar and patches that I welded in did not show any deflection. Needless to say I ditched the PanHard setup for one designed a little better. Whatever you do, make sure you make the patch bigger than just the shock hole, at least a 4/5" square................and brace/patch on the top and bottom...............IMHO
Ill try to get picks, oh BTW it was the drivers side rear. I always wondered what went through the truck, i thought something on the road flew up and went thru it. WHoops! it was the shoock at one time... The car is at a shop right now. ill see if he can take pics for me ans send them to me and ill post them. he has a lift. i dont anymore. Chaz.
I just like the crank up the ass end slightly, ( NOT WAY UP THERE, like a cat in heat) are the KYB GR2's adjustable? CHaz.
More than likely the reason they went thru the floor.Even with no air in them, there is no cushion, when going over bumps/potholes/ect.
After high school, I bought a 73 Duster. I ran right out and put air shocks on it. HAD TO HAVE THEM!! I wound up tearing up through the trunk floor with one of them and fairly close to sending the other one through also. I took it to a spring shop and they put another leaf in each side and then re-arched the original leaf springs. They also bolted a length of angle iron under the trunk floor and a flat plat on the trunk floor. Sandwiched them together. Then they bolted 2 new shock mounts to the angle iron and mounted 2 new Gabriel adjustable shocks to them. NO MORE AIR SHOCKS and no more troubles.
