Wow you passed up atleast $500 worth of parts that i saw in those 2 pictures.. Probably $1000 worth of parts between those cars.. Check for bucket seats, sport mirrors, small bumpers,302 conversion parts, spoilers, valences, any other good parts you can save from the crusher.. That yellow car looks way to nice to be there..
This is a farmer's back lot out in the county. I doubt anything will go to the crusher until county code enforcement finds him. I'm a "townie". I just don't have any room for spare parts in my humble abode. But, times is tough. I'm sure you can get him to pull and ship whatever you need for a reasonable amount. Message me if you want his phone number.
It's the small details that seem to make the biggest difference in how well a restoration turns out. Unfortunately, these small details are also the most expensive part of the project. I just got back all the stainless from the polisher. All the stainless is now mirror finish. Originally I believe the stainless was anodized and not all that shiny. I'll try to get some pictures of the project on Monday. It's time to drop by the shop again with green pictures of dead statesmen.
I found an old picture with my Maverick from 1982. This highschool engine repair on the 250 actually lasted until 1988 until it threw a rod on the freeway in downtown Austin, TX. It actually drove 3 miles home (at 10 mph) on 5 cylinders and a cam broken in 2 places. Go Ford Go! http://tinyurl.com/yeewe5j
That sounds identical to my numorous trips to the speed shop that built my Cleveland stroker. The dead Presidents were really flying out of my walet
Mav70: The shop I deal with prefers to see only Ben Franklins! You know that Ben Franklin was never a president, but was a brilliant statesman and our first real American diplomatic (first to France and then to Sweden) You have to figure that with all of Ben Franklin's scientific experiments in electricity, oceanography and music, that if Ben had been born 200 years later that he would undoubtedly have owned a Maverick. ...probably a '73 due to his strong sense of individualism!
Steering linkage problem I need some help. The steering linkage is bumping on both sides. Are any of the parts possibly different from 6 cylinder to 8? Maybe a different pitman arm? We have already raised the engine. Maybe there are some differences in where the mounts are located? Was there an optional v8 in 1970 frame? If not, that could explain why things don't quite line up. http://tinyurl.com/yk7obe6 http://tinyurl.com/yk4osnf
Just so we are clear. This is NOT originally the work of the current shop that has been working on my Maverick. If you review some of my earlier posts, there were a few drug-addled and degenerate individuals who did some bizarre and unmentionable things in the earlier stages of the restoration. I almost lost my car once when creditors seized the shop that my car had been sitting. The owner had been arrested for manufacturing drugs. Fun times. The shop is struggling with issues related to finding parts for 70-77 and not having it match up to my car. There were lots of variables -- power steering, straight-6/v-8, power brakes. It's getting to be a struggle for these guys to find the right parts. Even the prop rod size and position seems to have changed from year to year. Apparently, we had some 1970 and later steering and linkage parts that were mixed. This was a Bad Thing. I just bought a 1976 302 V8 in Seattle to pull all the parts that I need. Sorry, the engine is already gone. What is a normal ballpark price to pay for quality work reupholstering the front and back seats where I supply the original material? I have two wildly different prices to do the upholstery. One is close to 2k and the other is less than half. What is the real price?
I saw this car yesterday. I am the person that turned you on to the 76 Maverick, so you could get all the parts you need to finish your project. Glad I was able to help. The car looks awesome in person. Can't wait to see the finished project. Would be nice to see you at the Colby Cruise & MCCI Mini Meet, @ XXX Root Beer, in Issaquah this year. Would even be nice if you could make the Mega All Fords weekend @ Mission Raceway, in September.
...and what a small world it is! Thanks for the parts car. I would have spent easily that much on parts. Now if I can just get an answer on the upholstery. The guys that are working on it now have an outside person that wants to do it for 1700. I have a guy local to me that will do it for 500. I'll probably have to visit with both of the guys that gave me quotes to figure out exactly who to believe. Ask for references, etc. I hate it when two quotes are so far apart.
